In Your Humble Opinion, of course

aka, the huuuuuuuuuuuge flame thread

Just reading the KMFDM thread and people were discussing whether their best work was behind them.

That got me thinking: who are the artists/bands that you slavishly bought each record of to to notice that, well, they arnt doing it for you in the last few years?

Cause they cannat write any more good tunes, or they have changed styles and they are now doing stuff that isnt why you got into them in the first place?

For me, sorry to say :? , it is PJ Harvey.
When I first heard her stuff (from the first single), I was blow away
However, I was an angst-ridden hormonal boy and the type of music she was doing then (Dry, Rid of Me) really spoke to me (somehow!!). I identified quite a lot with her and her troubles at the time.

Since she has become a solo artist (i.e her band is not called PJ Harvey as it was at the start) I dont get the same thrill from her albums. He stuff seems to be less "real" and more arch and knowing - arty psudo-angst instead of viscreal bleeding.
Maybe we have grown up and grown apart, i dont know.

Orbital were another band for me, but that is cause they started doing daytime game-show music for their last couple of albums :x

Oh, and REM - used to love them for about the first 8 albums (well bits of AFTP), but god they have just put out dross for ages.

But 8 almost nearly great albums is pretty good going

What about Dead Skin Mask?
War Ensemble?
Mandatory Suicide?

While Reign in Blood was impossible to actually top (Hell, it's hard for ANYONE in the genre to top that masterpiece!) they continued to put out consistently good stuff until after Seasons in the Abyss. Hell, even Divine Intervention had some nice stuff on it...

Erm, the drum and bass scene as a whole. Still some good tunes coming out, but it's been a while since I heard anything that couldn't have been released five years ago.

(If anyone proves me wrong on this one, I'll be quite glad.)
