Can someone explain the PLParaEQ controls to me?

I gues I'm used to bonehead reverb control schemes (like Posihfopit---that interface I can handle :hihi: ).

I don't get having both an attenuation and gain control for each band, and why do they default at -20 and go to a maximum of zero? Is the deal that you can cut and boost at the same time (like on a Pultec)? And how do you contol the HPF and LPF, since there is no 6/12/24 switch and no "cutoff" control specifically. I've been playing around with the controls and I often am having a hard time hearing differences in settings, particularly in the LPF and HPF.

Right, I've been running them in 5 instances in parallel, thus my mistake in saying that. Still, though, anyone explain the somewhat unconventional control scheme to me? I'm trying to get this thing to work as best I can since I think there is some real transparency to this plug.

Hi Fripper,

there's not so much unconventional. The only untypical thing is the attenuation control which is simply a volume control.
I can't use more than on instance in Nuendo2 without getting the comb filtering effect while I have the quality set to higher than 1 on one instance. This is clearly a bug as my machine is far from maxed out and I tried it with a HUGE buffer. One instance of the plugin sounds really great though.
But hey, nothing against a public beta test of a free technology preview. Just a little amusing.

So attenuation is overal volume? Okay, but tweaking it didn't seem to be having much effect. Also, anyone know how the gain slider effects the LPF and HPF? Since high and low pass filters have a slope I'm not sure I understand how they are controlled by this, unless it's done with the Q control. I guess, as was suggested, I may have to put a scope on and try to see, I was just hoping someone knew already.

Same problem in FL. In fact 2 instances crashed my host. I think it sound good but I can only use one instance and it is also CPU intensive...

Post

I didn't get crashes but it seemed like there was inconsistency. Sometimes it seemed like multipe instances were working, other times some of them seemed to produce no effect. I agree this version is probably buggy.

As far as CPU, I'm finding quality 1 in linear to really be pretty good. At least one could adjust settings in that mode and render in quality 5.

Hey Fripper,

gain does nothing for a LPF or HPF. Q is resonance. Tweaking gain didn't have much effect? Well if you think that 20 dB gain has little effect ...

I've done some further researching. After careful consideration I can safely say that the credibility of this company as well as the quality of their products and scientific ground work is in the league of those "enlarge your penis"-adverts. Luckily they've made the mistake of putting their "products" in the astronomical price range, so very few schmucks will afford to be fooled.

By now probably everyone has tried it. Nobody is commenting on the sound because the company's web site and their other product look dubious. Interesting phenomenon. Whatever happen to 'trust your ears' and all the babbling audiophiles ?

I guess they have a manual for it, probably only
costs, let's see *hmmm* $250????? :-o

you're forgetting that one band is free and nothing stops you from using more than one eq to get multiband. I'd love to hear an opinion of a real value of this plugin from someone who knows something about eqs.

Spending $1500 on eq hasn't corssed my mind but there are people who spend that amount on algorithmix. if you do a google search for algorithmix you'll see that the purchasers aren't exactly schmucks.

Thanks for the input but I have to conclude you aren't reading my posts very carefully. :P

Obvisouly the controls that are there (gain, Q) don't have any effect on LPF and HPF in any conventional sense. So now I'm asking you (or anyone) if you can figure out which contols on this GUI, of this particular plugin contol the LPF and HPF filters. I don't see any. Do you?

All LPF and HPF filters I've ever used have been contolled either by 2 pole/4 pole controls, or 12db/24db, etc. slope contols, and a cutoff contol. None of those things exist on this interface and yet there is supposedly both an HPF and LPF. Thus...the whole reason I started this thread.

Sorry to sound like an ass but that's the second patronizing post I've gotten from you and your answers still really don't seem to be addressing the issue I'm raising.
