I've considered this option before, but I want to have opinions and experience from you.

I've always used FL and I love it, but now I own a hardware synth I'm very pleased with, and want to implement it perfectly into my music.

Now, i was considering using Sonar while not leaving FL behind, combining both.

but now, the question I want to ask is...

what real improvements would I get in changing from FL to Sonar REGARDING THE USAGE OF A HARDWARE SYNTH?

please all help and info about this is highly welcome.

thanks mates.

sorry I missed this my friend, I got sonar a couple of weeks ago...I dont have to tell you how I feel about FL...the biggest improvement will be in handling audio. I'm still using FL for writing my drums, bass and some synth parts then I use Sonar and AA.

I do like the workflow of Sonar quite a bit, but I'm still quite use to FL. Sonar is a pain in the ass to set up for Dfh superior. Also Sonar still doesn't like sytrus.

I think if you're looking for someone to tell you to buy Sonar I can't do that. I can tell you what I like and dislike so far. But really with FL6 looming around the bend, you might wanna wait...if you're like me and had home studio and get update cheap you may wanna just go ahead and get it. I don't think (at least not for me) that there is a huge learning curve going from FL to Sonar.

I will say that my getting Sonar will have more effect on how much I use AA and wont have much impact on my use of FL...FL is still crucial too me. One thing I didn't know which will likely mean another upgrade...I got Sonar Studio, which does not have eqs on each channel...hope that helps you some..:D

Thanks Hink, you're always there for me...

I've been considering using Sonar for months, but it's just that I love FL so much, I mean, I feel very comfortable in it...

of course I'll wait for FL6, and actually I'm going to buy DirectWave, cos I need a good sampler and DirectWave seems very very promising.

thanks, mate.

I work with both, I use FL for pretty much everything, then export wavs to sonar for surround mixing.

I have used FLS+Sonar for some time (I started with 2.2, skipped 3, got 4P and just got S5P in the mail yesterday). Sonar is much better for working with audio.

I've not used it with multiple MIDI outs. It can support multiple MIDI interfaces, and it can also support chaining multiple devices on different MIDI channels on the same interface. Sonar also accepts multiple MIDI interfaces for input, which I know FLS doesn't.

The hardest part of working with a host and any hardware synth is compensating for the latency if you're driving the synth via MIDI while recording its audio. I don't know that Sonar is any better than FLS for this, as I don't have any hardware synths that I run from Sonar via MIDI.

thanks, cyrosis, for your experience.

But what i really want to know is what improvements would I get regarding usage of hardware synths via midi.

thanks.
