Which one should I choose? What are the differences? Would love to hear from anyone who uses each one or who has tried each one. What are the downsides to each? Thanks, I look forward to the comments.

Are you serious?

You should choose the one that works best for you. If you ask like this I suggest that you try all available freeware. Begin with the simulanalog stuff. Free doesn't mean bad quality. Not with software. These times are over.

Best wishes, FRitz

yes, i am serious. i am looking for personal opinion. i have made many purchases this way and they have all turned out to be good ones. user feedback is critical.

Yes, but Fritz is right. ;)

okay, whatever. so, for all of you who disagree with this approach, great - i don't care. for any of you who have experience with either of these products, i'd love to hear from you. thanks!

Sorry for my recommendation then. :hihi:

Didn't realize simulanalog was a recommendation. i had never heard of it before, but just found their web site. i'll check it out while i am waiting for additional feedback. thanks!

Just IMHO, but I don't think you'll find those anywhere in the range of Guitar Rig or Waves. By all means try them out, of course; I don't know what your sound expectations are.

Personally, I prefer POD to any software solution. So far, that is.

Post

i tend to agree with you. my expectations are very high. with regards to the Pod, i have tried that as well, but the only one i think remotely sounds good is the xt live. i like the idea of using vst because i can record clean and apply FX as needed based on the overall sound of the song.

Yep, that would be the advantage! My expectations are high too, and it took me awhile to get used to the POD sound & editing, but now I'm a fan. Especially since I have a tube pre to put it through now; adds an extra touch of oomph to the sound.

That being said, I don't know anyone who's even looking at Waves Guitar yet. Guitar Rig is pretty amazing, and it just got better. It's hard to imagine anything being much better...hey - isn't the Waves one going to be, like, twice as expensive???

Plus, GTR is using an ILok coming with PACE drivers. Just what you want for your music machine...

Oh yeah, good point! God: Dongles, iLok, PACE, Authorization...our computeres will look like friggin Xmas trees pretty soon!

Post

yeah, i don't get a great feeling about the whole PACE/ilok thing. waves and guitar rig are about the same price. the pro tools tdm version is twice the price, but i'm not running pro tools.

since i can get a great deal on guitar rig, i will probably just go with that. thanks for all the input people. this is exactly what i was looking for!

Well, so far nobody's got any hands on experience with GR2. The same goes for Amplitube 2. I'd wait for the demos to be available.

I should say Guitar RIG is really unbeatable... I tryed many digital gutar amps and combo emulators, but guitar RIG has unique sound, and this is the only guitar effect which can give you THAT guitar sound... After I tryed it I fallen down from my chair. I did never know that it's possible to make such a good guitar fx emulation... Well, my voice to GuitarRIG. It's unique and only the thing which may be called a "guitar effect". And no my apologizes to guys who use another software... Well, guys... You have a crap if you don't have RIG.
