I am using the samples from Reason, and in the day or so I've been playing with them, have been very happy with the quality and quantity of drums and articulations. However, I find the 'cute' patch names, and cryptic folder and file names to be an impediment. Somewhere I read the inventory of drums used for the capsule. Is there a document that describes how to map actual drum make/type/size/articulation, etc into the sample library ?
I would like to be able to assemble a Redrum kit kind of like shopping at a drum store ... give me that Ludwig 20" kick, and that 8" Pearl Tom ....
Am I missing something?

There currently isn't a list of which patches correspond to actual makes and models of drums.
Personally, I don't mind because I prefer to choose my instruments based on sound, but I can see how someone else might want to experiment with mixing and matching different specific makes and models.
Maybe something for the future.

Of course, the ear is the final arbiter. But since jazz kits typically have different drums than metal kits, it would be nice to be able to choose by make/model/size/mic. At least to get started. Check out the Nigel plugin from Universal Audio. I like the way they organize their speaker cabinet emulations. Not only do you get to choose the cab, but you also get to choose mic positioning.Kim (esoundz) wrote:There currently isn't a list of which patches correspond to actual makes and models of drums.

There's already a lot of work involved in a drum library at this price. Sometimes the price reflects more variation, deeper documentation, larger library in general with more of each type of thing (more brushes, more jazz kits, more of this and that special thing). We actually are working on such libraries that are coming out soon but they do cost a bit more. But, it is worth it. That said, Studio Drums is capable of some great sounding drum tracks even if the sample names and organization of it isn't ideal for having a variety of each individual style. It's a general offering of acoustic drum kits covering a wide range in multiple formats for a very good price.
