G'day all,

I was wondering if I could consolidate a lot of opinions on EQ's, compressors, limiters, reverbs, etc, by getting the more knowledgable people on here to post their personal replacements for the standard Waves plugs. I've used Waves as a starting point simply because everyone is familiar with them (at least with what they are) and they're commonly used in pro studios (deservedly so or not), so the replacements should be as good or better.

So,

L3 Ultramaximizer =

L2 Ultramaximizer = TLs Maximizer; Voxengo Elephant; Elemental's Finis, Kjaerhus GPP-1, and TbT Pocket Limiter; Wave Arts FinalPlug

Linear Phase Equalizer = PLParEQ4, Voxengo CurveEQ & Voxengo HarmoniEQ; Elemental Audio Firium, Ozone 3

True Verb Room Emulator = Arts Acoustic Reverb

Renaissance Equalizer = ElectriQ; Voxengo GlissEQ; Sonalksis SV-517 and Kjaerhus Audio GEQ-7

Linear Phase Multiband = Ozone 3, Sonalksis CQ1

Q10 Paragraphic Equalizer = ElectriQ; Voxengo; GlissEQ; GEQ-7; Elemental's Equium

C4 Multiband Parametric Processor = Sonitus Multiband; Wave Arts MultiDynamics and iZotope Ozone

Maxx Bass = Voxengo LF-Max; PSP MixBass; Voxengo bass processors; Voxengo LF-Punch

L1 Ultramaximizer = Voxengo Elephant; Khaerhus Audio GPP-1

Renaissance DeEsser = Voxengo Voxformer (for wideband), Digital Fish Phones Spitfish (for narrowband); Kjaerhus Audio GAC-1

C1 Parametric Compander = Kjaerhus Audio GCO-1, Sonitus fx:compressor

Renaissance Compressor = Voxengo Marquis; Kjaerhus GCO1; Voxengo Soniformer; Kjaerhus Audio GUP-1

Renaissance Reverberator = Arts Acoustic Reverb

Renaissance Bass = Voxengo bass processors; PSP MixBass

Renaissance Vox = Kjaerhus GPP-1; Voxengo Voxformer, Kjaerhus Audio GAC-1 and Wave Arts TrackPlug

I've left out some of the effects (phasers etc) and the restoration stuff, because most threads seem interested in eq, compression, reverbs etc.

Hope some of you could be arsed - I reckon it'd be a great help! Let me know if I should add anything or take anything off...

There have also been some votes for the Nomad Factory Blue Tubes, Essential Studio Suite, BuzComp, Sonitus:fx Suite and Wave Arts, but they didn't go into specifics.

I'll just list the Waves plugs I like in your list,The Lin EQ and R-Bass and Linear-multiband(if you have that you don't need the C4),I don't like any mastering comps so I'll leave that to others.I like the R-Comp a little and it's useful.What do I like better? URS A and N for track EQ and UAD Pultec and Sonalksis as well,UAD La2a and 1176 and Timeworks Compressor-X and Blockfish(free) for comps.I don't like Waves reverb plugins much except for the IR-1 library,but If your shooting for the top I'd get the VSS3 and the Powercore and or the Plate 140 and UAD.That's all for now.

Hi boogooloo1,

- L2, L3: TLs Maximizer, simply good. tweak the settings for best results.
- RCL: Voxengo Marquis, you can read how I formerly liked RCL and now will replace it soon by Marquis in the Marquis thread.
- Linear phase equalizer: PLParEQ4, muchos better! It's da bomb as they say.
- RenEQ and Q10: ElectriQ, can be clean or colourful. Good sound while light on CPU.

Are you replacing them, or do you want to but something as good as them?

I couldnt live without them personally.

Ive never like The Farm, too baggy for me...

but to answer your question, they work perfectly well in PT.

Waves are fine, only bettered by Sony. If on a budget look at Wave Arts as IMO they dump on all similar or lower priced plugs.

The easiest way to replace Waves is to use Particles. Best part is they're really both Wave and Particle simultaneously, so there's no extra quantum licensing fee...

Actually, I'd recommend the Essential Studio Suite over Blue Tubes for a Waves user. It's seems to be heavily borrowed from Waves and relatively affordable.

If you want value - and I know you do - there is the Buzcomp Series compressors, which compete rather well with L2/L3 style limiters.

MaxBass could be achieved with Voxengo LF-Max or PSP MixBass (but I think MaxBass is untouchable in that category). Apart from that, I like Fritzman's recommendations too.

I could never replace my waves.

Sonitus:fx suite is a pretty good bundle that is in many ways like the core Waves plugins. I recommend it.

...and thanks for all the fish, boys! Slightly unorganised (and in Meffy's case, useless) answers, but I'm chuffed to even get a response!

Hopefully some more contributions will be made, and then I'll organise them into a list - where are those smart-arsed Finns when you need them??
