i just read in a interview with Trentemoller, my absolute favourite producer, that he uses ACID 5, wich kinda amzed me.

last time i tried that host, it was pretty laggy and well, it felt kinda limited and timeconsuming to work with. especially for midi and the likes..

i may be wrong tho!

can anyone help me to get straightened out on this matter please?

i am of course pretty interested now as Trentemoller is using it, shallow as i am. :hihi:

im currently looking for a new host, even tho im still pleased in Logic 5, im working more n more with audio and feel that i need a little 'more', than Logic can offer me atm.

Post

he probably just used it for loops and sketches

Post

and then what?
i mean, i know he uses a micro korg, and its pretty obvious he uses a lot of synthezised stuff in his tracks. he must do it all in ACID then i take it.

thats what amazes me. :)

if i aint got ACID all wrong that is.
i am, and have been a well pleased sound forge user for some years now, and i kinda would like to think that ACID is in the same league. but i dunno..

Yeah, i agree. how on earth could anyone actually use such a program to make full tracks. He's probably lying, he probably doesn't use it at all and has Rrotools + ten Macs. I remember when people used to lie about making music on ataris and such likes, what crazy bastards.

To be real though. Acids (like any other music app) limits equate your own. The people who've downloaded a demo of version 3 years ago (or who haven't even tried it) are the ones who seem to criticise it the most...listen to the music THEY make, and answer this....could it have been done in acid? You'll find the answer surprising.

yes
It would be a sin for me to suggest that perhaps he might use one app for some things and another app for others.

I completely understand the hostility you feel for my statement

hehe.. u never know!
i dont think he's lying tho.. just a feeling in me gut. :)
he seem to actually use his laptop for most things, if i understood things right.

i also read that he uses ableton live when playing live, but thats another story i guess, even tho i find it pretty close to ACID.

so, i guess i shouldnt give ACID another shoot then? perhaps i should just go cubase like everyone else. heh.. the audio part in there, isnt that bad tho.

Download the demo and try it for yourself. That's all anyone can do. Like i said, a lot of the "anti" acid opinions on here are really outdated, so it's your call what you listen to....yourself after trying it, or someone else who probably hasn't a clue?

ure right, i should do that. its just that last time i tried it, i wasnt the impressed. so i thought id ask u guys before giving it another wack, and installing framework and all.. :scared:

The .net framework doesnt get in the way of anything, so don't worry about that :P

The bit that bugs me is the database engine it installs, but you can remove that anyway (from add/remove....same with the media manager component,) so it's just an one off annoyance rather than an insistent one. Give it a little time, there's a lot of hidden tricks that can be done with acid. For some reason sony promote it as a "loop sequencing tool" more or less. That was true a few versions ago, but not so much now (and sadly there are people who still believe that's "all" it is.) With vst/vsti and dx/dxi compatability and a more than reasonable piano roll, it's far beyond a "looping tool".

Post

so u should remove the media manager and database engine u think? its been a few years since i tried ACId, so im quite the n00b now. :)

The core of Acid is fantastic. That is what Acid was in version 3g. A couple of very minor additions were made in version 4 that were worth having and it wasn't until the final version 4f that it became reasonably stable.

The tragedy with AcidPro5 is that it took a huge step down to appeal to the non-musical "rich tinkerer" market. It was an "upgrade" designed with the sole purpose of promoting and selling Sony's loop libraries.

But the "core" of the app remains virtually unchanged since version 3. And even then it was easily possible to write an entire song in AcidPro (so long as it was all audio).

AcidPro5 is like a Model-T Ford with chrome wheels, a spolier and racing suspension.

If you don't use it. I removed them completely and it works without a hitch. Oh, another side affect of removing it is acid loading more or less instantly as it doesn't have to load your sample library first. :| :P

Post

hehe ait.. i understand completely. :D
a little bit like they did to sound forge then i guess. i refused to upgrade to v8, and are still on v7 because of this. v8 is well laggy imo.

im planning to do midi as well tho, so i hope that side of ACId is good enough for my minor achievements.

Post

Reverse Engineer, quick loading u say? consider it removed then! :D

Post

Reverse Engineer,
the database engine u mentioned, is that the SQL server desktop engine one? its the only thing that is new besides the media manager, in my add/remove section. so im guessing thats it..:)
