Is there an absolute plugin that enables you to achive a superior 5.1 surround effect? Something that is able to give "distance" or "upfrontness" to sounds in a mix. Names of Reverbs and imaging/ spatial plugins would help.

You might want to check out www.starplugs.com - they have several nice surround plugins!

Just have a look at the Acousmodule' s site, no more...

wavearts panorama

If you mean through a stereo diffusion system ?

Be aware that it supposed to work only for well-defined situations like through headphone OR on a equilateral triangle between your head and the two speakers as much as i know

Beeing mac based, all i can suggest is the prosoniq ambisone, but again this would make sense in one OR the other suggested case never both at the same time ( you'll have to choose between open or enclosed stereo field on that plug )

try also the psp stereo pack
(...don't know much thing about the waveart plug but it seems to deserves a glance as welll ! )

Im mistaken. I tried wavearts surround not panorama. It's description sounds exactly like what i want. Front, back, up, down, near and far dimension features. Sounds perfect, now lets see what it can do.

If you want to give a sense of distance... you can play with lowpass filters. Cut off some of the high end, it will sound further away. Don't go with a sharp curve... go with something like a 12db/octave filter rather than a 24. That way the harmonics are still there, just muted a bit... if you cut them out entirely, you'll change the sound of the synth rather than making it sound far away. EQ'ing down the high end could work to this effect too.

Getting 5.1 style precise positioning however... that would be a lot harder. but a sense of general distance can be achievable.

Panorama is exactly what i was looking for. I got it!!! Its amazing. Simply amazing!!!!

My suggestion is simply to mix in discrete surround and then downmix it with the CircleSurround encoder to 2.0. It's a bit costly, but it's worth it.
