Who listens to CD's omn their computer anyway? That's what hi-fi's are for.

I like to listen to well engineered albums on my monitors for reference.

My hi-fi speakers have a completely different frequency response.

wow, there's a white guy in charge? wtf? is that just the recording end? sony's products have always amazed me. i mowed lawns so i could get their first walkman. what's really going on with sony?

You can play your stereo through your monitors using the line out from the stereo.

If they would reintroduce low-midprice hi-fi components, I certainly would listen to CDs on my low-midprice hi-fi components.
The problem is, there are no low-midprice cd players anymore where I live. The only players I find are incredibly expensive or DVD players.

My CD player died over a year ago, and I have no TV. Not a problem, because I have a CD player and a DVD player in my computer. It became a problem when greedy entertainment industry types decided to b0rk my system through invasive copy protection malware.

All my CDs are in the attic. I just listen to music in MP3 and APE.

This is like, better than those $5k cd players, cos during ripping and encoded it lossless, and it reads every bit. I goes out on my Creamware card and through Izotope Ozone. I use J River Media Center, because it has the best library management of all the media players.

So I think a lot of people do this, they like the transportability.

Oh yeah, if you hold down SHIFT while putting in the CD, I dont think this installs the copy protection, but I dunno if they made those horrid CDs with errors either.

I burn all my (jazz, electro and rock) CDs to my computer and use it as a massive jukebox

More to the point, who uses HiFi's these days?

... isn't that what iPods are for?

I rip my CDs and then re-edit them for mixing (those that don't contain long intros & outros for mixing) often times. Other times I borrow my friends' CDs when all I want is one cut off an album and rip.

And for those who are like "why don't you get the tracks off iTunes" I say most audio compression (like the stuff on iTunes) sounds like shit on anything other than earbuds. It's fine when I get the tracks for free (not off file sharing sites, but personal pages), but I'll never buy something DRM'd and compressed the hell up. So yea, I do rip, but I also buy alot of music so it all balances out.

what I dont understand is.. if this technology only worked on PCs using windows.. couldnt someone using a different o/s (say a dualboot setup with linux) just rip the music if they wanted to into any format they wished then transferred it over to their windows partition? if so that seems like a rather large hole sony left open..

...or do they think only pirates using windows? are there no pirates who use OSX or linux? I see it somewhat like bacteria.. it only takes one to create a problem..

therefore I deem sony is silly.. and am also wondering why there isnt some kind of lawsuit out yet..

With the connection i have, it's actually faster for me to download an album than it is to rip it. (well, if i rip it using something like musicmatch or whatever it's quite fast, but at the obvious expense of quality or overly high bitrates.)

So i download a copy for my comp (or rip it if i can't get it anywhere) and play my music here. My hi-fi is in my room and my cd's get played very little now. And no, that doesn't mean i actually buy less music and i certainly wouldn't disrespect my ears enough to burn a cd from mp3's.....how revolting.

Look, sony finally took a fcuking hint....
