ozone or Voxengo Mastering Suite or ....

Since M-Audio is having that deal right now for izotope ozone, I'm wondering if it is worth getting or if there is something better...

What would you consider the best mastering plugins?
Do you recommend getting a suite/package or just customizing with your own bought effects?

I dont like iZotope. Demoed a while and then uninstalled it Another choice for a complete suite could be the WaveArts Bundle or T-Racks... but I know, that was not the question Get Voxengo stuff insted of iZotope.

well, there are disadvantages to chaining plugs as opposed to having one that contains all.

that being said, i think ozones compressor is rather unintuitive. i do like ozone's exciter, limiter and stereo imager a lot, though.

getting ozone might not be a bad decision, best demo if before you buy it. sometimes it's really just a matter of making a decision, which decision you go for becomes secondary in quite a few of the plug-in scenarios these day, imvho.

I suggest that if you're that unsure about these things that you better start mastering with the good free plugins to see how far they get you.

Digitalfishphones.com stuff, really good with lotsa character.
TLs Maximizer, simply good.
TLs Pocket limiter, simply good with a different sound.
PLParEQ, the best mastering VST EQ out there, free or not.

This stuff alone would be enough to get really good masterings done if you would know (or learn) how to do it.

I think ozone has a great interface for "mastering" and a great sound to it, probably better for the person that is just starting off -- that being said, voxengo's audio quality is unmatched at this point in the game, and i would assume it is the better choice quality wise, however, it would be harder to achieve instant results -- more of a learning curve, whereas with ozone you can load up a preset that affects all of the modules, and you also have spectrographs and a phase thingy that shows you what is going on quite well... so its a trade off imo

voxengo = higher quality
ozone = easier

Only thing Ozone really wins in is the Dither. And that

I have only used the demo of ozone for a bit, and decided i wanted to use my own tools for mastering, in my own order, and i have no use for a "mastering reverb". Nonetheless, i have not thoroughly researched the dithering quality, no.,
