Just finished the second season of StarBlazers, watching it this time with my kids!!
Nova is Hot, Starsha is Hot. Trillana is just kinda weird.

Anyway...
the music in these series is cool, you can hear the styles change throughout the year.
I don't know of any other cartoons that have such a long and vast story line, each episode handing over the story to the next.

You should check out Excel Saga (not for kids at ALL!), as they parody the hell out of Leiji Matsumoto in a couple of episodes.
