Virtual Knobs or Sliders for sending midi controllers?

I'm just starting to get deeper into midi, and don't want to spend $100+ on a midi knob box, and I'm too lazy to reassign the pitch/mod wheels on my keyboard.

So, is their a virtual solution -- or should I be scouring Ebay for a used Phatboy? What are my options?

Thanks for any comments.

mmm what exactly are you trying to do? You want to put a knob to something that doesn't have one and control it with... you mouse? or your pitchbend-wheel?
Can you give an example, I'm a bit confused.

Yes, that is exactly what I'm trying to do.

I don't have any dedicated hardware for sending midi controllers. From what I've read, I can reassign my pitch and mod wheels, and even keys for this, but I'm trying to keep it simple. Then there are envelopes. I'm just getting started with cc's, and don't want to be drawing envelopes when a slider or knob or pedal will do.

It seems to me that a virtual knob or slider or pedal could do the same thing (without costing a lot). But I don't know if anyone's tried it.

Should I just break down and get a small knob or slider box?

I think MIDI-OX can do what you want but rerouting your pitchbend and modwheel CC's everytime you wanna change a parameter is just too much work.

Better go and buy a cheep usb midi device.

Yeah, I'm thinking hardware ultimately is the easiest way to go.

And I'll check out that Oxygen 8.

Thanks, everyone. :)
