My favourite is Kjaerhus GCO-1. I don't know about better, is there some form of standard for compressors? But whenever I have something challenging to compress, it always produces the results I like the best. I find it can handle balancing parts that move from quiet to very loud without distorting the loud sections very well. It also is very flexible to work with.
I really like all of the buzzroom dynamics processors, both the compressors and limiters. The latest set of compressors are really great character effects.

I love these sorta threads, for me it goes something like this...
Clean sounds / sofly distorted sounds: Kjaerhus GCO-1, GPP-1
Character: Voxengo Marquis
Master Limiter: Voxengo Elephant
I use the above compressors on tracks, busses and mixes and they work extremely well !
Cheers
