Magix Music Maker 10..thoughts?

I see that the e-version is $25 right now for the holidays & I am thinking that this might be a good starting host for my 'sequencer-inept' drummer and guitarist friends.

I downloaded to evaluate & so far only see a few buggy things. The gui for some vst's likes to get goofy when you change patches.

Other than that, seems ok.

Some specific questions I have:

#1 does live recording (have to purchase to use) allow you to preview a vst effect on the recorded source? (ie hear effect while recording dry)

#2 is there any vst automation support in this version (cant seem to find it).

#3 is there any support for vsts with multiple outs?

#4 how does this stack up to say Music Studio Deluxe 2005 (which can be had on cd for the same price). Keep in mind that the idea is to introduce sequencing to a few of my less computer literate friends. If Music Studio Deluxe 2005 has a steeper learning curve they will avoid it.

Ideally they just need a live effects (for guitar) host and a host that can do basic sequencing for a few drum vstis. (EnergyXT for example might scare the pants off em :hihi:)

ok,

so no thoughts
my sig will go here

ok bought it anyway...

and I have to say, for 25 bucks, its a whole lotta simple fun.
The ability to record (dry) while monitoring with vst effects in realtime is worth 25 bucks alone.

The built in effects & 3 synths you get with the e-version arent half bad either.

automation support seems to be non-existent, but you do have the ability to play/record in realtime.

So far I would definately reccomend this thing to someone just starting out.

now if i could just get pitchbend to work :hihi:

yeah, it was extremely reliable for me, just for simple track recording and edits. I've never been more productive than the period when I used Magix. But I utterly hate the MIDI studio part, and hate even more that it's not at all integrated with the Audio part.

It's certainly worth the $75 retail price for the Audio Studio alone.

Are we talking about Music Maker here, or Music Studio?

Oops. Sorry.

Music Maker is very friendly, but full of surprises... I bought it ! (For now, I buy software, and everybody should, not for the idea of being honest, but to start being serious and make some music instead of flying from warez to warez like a drunken bee).
You can't always get what you waaaant...

I spent almost the entire day playing with this lil program
Midi implementation isnt half bad, I actually kind of like the piano roll, its not as good as say FL, but hey its 25 bucks.

The program does seem to cough & weeze (a few missing notes at the beginning) when you try to render from it. As a workaround I tried rendering using "live mode", that got the results I wanted.

Note that there is no real automation, but you can render in live mode.

Fortunately, if you dont want to use it as the loopdeloop sample tool it was meant to be, you can shut that off and it will import waves, mp3s and ogg without trying to compute the tempo and time stretch.

A few plugs were buggy, in particular the Kjaerhus Classic series experienced gui redraw bugs. I solved this using the spinaudio wrapper, although this isnt the greatest workaround.

Magix music maker 10 is a child's toy. HOWEVER, if that is all you can afford, play on.

Well, hi there, Kriminal

Synapse Orion Platinum 6 is a child's toy. HOWEVER, if that is all you can afford ($249 vs. $299 for FL XXL), play on.

Maybe you should read his post instead of seeing "Music Maker" and automatically stamping it as childs toy.

I agree completely, the thing is a toy.
Obviously you didnt read the entire post however...

I don't understand the toy comment I'm trying it right now, and it seems pretty useful, it won't be my main sequencer app, but it has some nice video import features

Toys can be fun.

Its like a cheap version of acid and works well, no problems with it at all. The vidio stuff is very easy to use too and has a comprehensive video fx suite.

@ birrbits:
The vst instruments can be automated via the piano roll including pitchbend.
If you do use loops then you can make your own soundpool cd's from samples, great for drum loops.

Magix products are that bad that most music on my site uses music studio or music maker! Don't listen however as its all crap.... :hihi:

Have fun anyway. :)

:D fake
You cant beat people up then have them say "I love you"
