LiveSlice Filter?

filters is a FR which is on ice right now because you can use the midi-out ccs to control you favorite filter as explained on the website.
that's the reason why i voted against filters in the beta phase, because i like to use my personal favorite. i think it'll come sometime, but i'd like to have more important functions first, as you already can do what you wanna do.

no filters for me just yet, I'd go along with R.A.W.

i very much prefer it this way, too. after all, that's what my dedicated filters are for.

Glad most of you agree with my priorities. I'd rather implement some spectral based fx, that cannot be acheived with an insert effect without a noticable latency - within liveslice the effect could be precalculated, eliminating latency

It's a shame that filters aren't wanted IMO. I have some great VST filter effects but I would love to see a filter that works in a similar way to the other controls in LiveSlice.
I love the fact that I can change the pitch, envelopes and various other aspects of each slice. I think being able to filter each slice from within LiveSlice will enhances its capabilities no end. I think it will prove much more intuitive and lend itself to finely tuned filter effects than an external filter.

well, what we tried to say is that in fact you can..munchkin wrote:I have some great VST filter effects but I would love to see a filter that works in a similar way to the other controls in LiveSlice.
just use the "Midi1" and "Midi2" envelopes, set up the CCs to control e.g. cutoff and resonance of a filter you place behind LS as an insert effect.
and if 2 CCs aren't enough, you can add a track with empty events and use the midi-envs to control more parameters of the external effect.
it depends on the host you use how you can do it, but it's very easy to set up in any modular host like energyXT (and as a bonus you get the sound of your favorite filter

Can someone explain me, how to setup LiveSlice and Renoise to control filters with Midi1 and Midi2? I'm pretty new to this midi channeling stuff and really confused.
Step by step example or demo project file preferred.

nitex: I tried, but even when the midi mappings are set up there doesn't seem to be a way to route the midi output of VSTi's to the inserts.
the best you can do is to buy energy xt and run LiveSlice and all effects in energy xt, running as a plugin in renoise - this will give you the same possibilities as with the rack effects in tracktion.
Alternatively you can start lobbying in the renoise forum for midi routing between plugins.
Energy XT is definately a nice to have though - get it before the price goes up

and believe me, eXT is worth every cent (and more) just like LiveSlice.

I've tried the demo of eXT and i'm impressed so far, one can do really crazy things with that modular routing stuff. A last question, when i save my Renoise project with an eXT instance, which includes several effects and a LiveSlice instance and load that project again in Renoise, is the whole setup within the eXT instance restored, or do i need to save this extra as eXT project and prepare for file hunting when loading my songs. I wasn't able to test this, because the demo doesn't load saved projects.
