well I was just chatting with duncan about tone controlls when I remembered this beautiful stomp box I once owned the Marshall "Shredmaster" because of it's versatile CONTOUR control

Image

but don't let the name fool you it could sound modern but also could do vintage sounds pretty easily with the contour knob turned all the way left....

this was a very flexible and superb sounding pedal... sadly I sold mine years ago... so now I had the idea to build a modelled version of this pedal in our new Betabugs Amp... and I also found the schematics (I found another graphic dunc ;))

Image

well I guess it's not been that popular that somebody has tried to modell this thing... but if someone has more infos on this - PLEASE share it with us...

or if you ever owned it just scream here and say how much you loved it... ;)

cheers,
mully

looks like a very average diode clipper, with a tone pot (contour) fading between a lowpass and twin-t (notch) on the output. bass and treble controls are after the clipper and so dont change the tone any more than an eq could. the input has a bit of a lowpass and the fact they used so many capacitor values scares me, what an inefficent design. you could model the whole thing with something along the lines of lowpass, highpass, atan, lowpass/highpass with the same cutoff value and the output of each from 0.0 to 1.0, contour filter is slightly more complex but could be modeled to fair accuracy with a multimode, and thats it.

the atan section would need either heavy oversampling, or you would need to use seperate frequency bands and limit the saturation to prevent aliasing.

very simple to implement, basically five filters and a stupid atan with either oversampling on it or another five filters and five atans.

you might be disappointed by the effect, you know, all other already existing software distortions use the same method..

only unique part is that low/notch selection on the output.

I'm not a fan at all of the band Radiohead but I just thought I might chime in and point out that they are known for using that pedal a whole lot.

I used to have a Shredmaster and it's pretty good. They were going for stupid-high prices a couple years ago on Ebay so I couldn't resist selling it. I don't know if it would be worth doing a model because part of what gives it it's tone is the fact that it's kind of a noisey pedal...but it's a good kind of noise. I don't know if you could really model it in the same way.

The older Marshall Valvestate amps have the same kind of contour control. Might be better to base your model on one of those.

btw the amp this thing could end up in could possibly ressemble this bugger

Dude.

Sorry to get off topic, but I would love for someone to model a Boss Feedbacker pedal. Predatohm does a feedback thingy well (sounds like a feedbacked combfilter or delay(???)), but I always wodered what the software alternatives could be...

 they go to 11!!!

As the name suggests, perhaps an idea to take this concept a nudge up is to combine the shredmaster with an electric mistress?

Pluggo Feedback Network.

I've still got my Shredmaster. It's what I used for my Grindcore music years basic. Has a very chunky, biting sound.[/b]

its cool but dont you thing the interfaces of your plugs are way too big and way too colorfull to be usable ?
