SONY has now shown everyone the way.

According to their philosophy it's ok to install insecure software on
a persons PC without telling them.
It's OK to use open source software without acknowledging the license.
It's ok when you are caught out to, at first, to deny every thing and
try to lie your way out of it.

If we all follow Sonys example it's OK to do anything we want with music
and software ...because what their actions (which speak louder than words)
have shown is it's OK to do whatever you want as long as you don't get caught.

Do you all realize that the rootkit fiasco was not about piracy per se?
it was about stopping people from copying Sony/BMG music to the
oppositions (read Apple Ipod) portable music player.
Those ipods must be hurting sales of Sonys portable players, bigtime.

Which leads me to another irony:
I many cases it's the same corporations who make/distribute
the CDs who are also selling the MP3 players, mini disc recorders etc.

DOH!

This corporation has NO MORAL VALUES WHATSOEVER!

They are quite prepared to use whatever law in whatever country to
hound and humiliate anyone who they perceive as diminishing their profit,
but, somehow they don't seem to think they should have to abide by
those same laws.

Who are the pirates now?

Sony sucks like a black hole ;)

Some people at Sony made a big mistake no doubt but saying that they have "no moral what so ever" is a bit far out isn't it? It's a big company you know, really big.

Or is this just a way to fuel the discussion from taking off?

Well crap on Sony all you will, I like my minidisc and its ability to record a microphone in PCM Wave. That's dedication to recording technology. And as for the competitors, I think iPods and their BS marketing that goes along with them are silly. WTF is a podcast? It's the most absurd terminology ever.

I've always liked sony products

sony make awesome, high quality electronics created by great engineers... definately. But I dislike the Sony music division, since they seem dead set on f**king the world over for profit.

In some places where Sony operates, it is considered very much like that.

What will really be bad for Sony, is if, in discovery in one of the suits, it is learned that someone in decision-making authority knew this and approved the plan anyway.

I'd recommend not buying Sony if you don't like Sony. no flies on me...

I like Sony products. I don't like Sony the company. I no longer buy Sony products.

I love my Ericsson 750i and I have Sony to thank for making that phone. Thank you Sony. All big business is gonna piss you off, the trick is not letting it bother you too much.

I remeber when Sony had the best monitors...
This is no longer the case.
Bye bye sony you and the RIAA are in deep doo doo...say hello to a WAVE of new P2P all over the place in retaliation.

I have always liked Sony for simple, well designed low end consumer stuff as well. Their high end stuff wasn't quite up to speed, and I remember a case where a record company (small but extremely quality minded classical music label in Norway) spent years and lots of money before Sony admitted to a flaw in their AD converter, which gave an audible static 3kHz tone. They have never been big on admitting mistakes.
After this I will certainly look for alternatives when buying electronics, and if I can help it I'll stay away from their CDs as well.
