I am using Absynth 3 and FM7 for this. I think maybe Wusikstation does it also. I'm sure there are others. There is of course Reaktor 5 which does everything.

in FL, you can put any VST plugin, even instruments, as an effect. Of course, getting any sound out of it is a bit harder

Can this really be done? I thought only plugin dlls marked 'fx' can be used for FX. I know that the regular VSTs can be inserted in FX channels, but they don't affect the sound whatsoever.
