Hey hey,

Just a quick pointer to the excellent emusic.com service. For those of you who don't know, its a legal MP3 subscription service starting at $9.99 a month for 40 tracks a month.

Reason i mention this now is that they've just signed up some really good stuff. Distinctive records and supercharged music stuff recently added. You can also trial for a month and get 50 free dpownloads then back out if you're not happy.

Exmples of stuff available now:

hybrid - wider angle, morning sci-fi albums
Way out west - various albums
Krafty kuts stuff
Lemon jelly albums

Anyway with the addition of the hybrid stuff you'd be a fool not to trial the service, these are the absolute cream of classic breaks if you liek that sort of thing.

What's particularly cool is that they have a lot of albums which are one long track.

I prefer soulseek and/or torrent sites for my "digital media". No way am i paying for low quality cd rips. Even if they offer "lossless" they still don't give you a cd case and cover + liner notes and 100% compatability even with the oldest cd players around. If you like something buy the damn CD or Vinyl.......mp3/aac/ogg et al are "previewing/reviewing" media.

what is the quota of deleted/unavailable stuff?
im not that arsed about things i can still get hold of but somewhere to pick up those classics that are out of print would be cool

Well they've got "wider angle" which is a re-release of "wide angle" with an extra disc of remixes. "wide angle" is one of the best breaks albums ever made in my humble opinion. You can just download the original disc if you want to give it a try.

vurt - i'm not really sure what you're after, but the search facilities on the site are good so have a good browse around and see what you can find, you can search and hear previews without joining so its not a problem.

A fine choice, but regarding emusic i don't think its on there. Not yet at least.

Much of Mille Plataeux catalogue is there.

I'd say that emusic charge what could be called 'preview' prices, certainly compared to the cost of a CD. It's not as if previewing music on demand is an inalienable right which existed before the internet era.

Mainly ambient/experimental stuff. Either one long track or few long tracks. Philip Niblock has a lot of such stuff on there, then there's William Basinski, and an excellent 'supergroup' album called Afternoon Tea by Fennesz, Rowe, Ambarchi, Pimmon, and Rehberg (2 tracks) etc etc...

http://www.allofmp3.com -- via loopholes in international copyright law, you can get music for insanely low, Russian prices. (You choose your own encoding, and pay $0.02 per MB!) Its collection is still growing, but it's pretty darn good already. Plus, you get free 24-bit mono mp3s so you can decide if you like a song or not before you buy it.

You might as well just download for free rather than letting some fuckhead scoop the profits if you're looking at allofmp3.com
