Mackie Mixer/Front End: Good Deal?

until Dec. 31, purchase of the Mackie Onyx 1220 mixer gets you a free Fire Wire card bundled, if i had no computer audio card, i'd seriously consider this...i like the idea of using an analog mixer for the recording front end, not sure how the routing works but it seems it would be a pretty simple/elegant solution, plus a nice small mixer for live use if needed...i like my present setup fine but it's a few too many hoops to jump thru sometimes, a simpler setup might be cool... i've read that the mic pres and eq's are nice, so is this a good deal or not?
KVR: come for the music, stay for the polemics and grammar lessons...

That free FireWire card makes all the difference, doesn't it 
I have a Mackie 1604-VLZ, and assume the Onyx being a bit more modern, it would be of at least the same quality. A 4-band EQ would be nice though...
