i'm mixing hip-hop if that makes any difference.

i find when using spectral matching on CurveEQ / Firium:

Firium gives me a very tight bottom end and somewhat harsh highs.

CurveEQ gives me great, silky smooth highs and a muddy bottom end.

agree or disagree?

I can agree with your observations, however ... CurveEQ is much much more accurate when doing spectral matching. I have tried firium and it was so far off the correct result, that I found it completely useless for matching.

I do find the bottom end less punchy with curveEQ though. May I suggest that you use the matching EQ on CurveEQ with the low end boost of the GlissEQ. Make sure you use Lo-Shelf Z1 mode, its the most punchy I have found.

scius, you may alternatively use 'M-P' (minimum phase) mode instead of default 'L-P' in CurveEQ. This should produce a little more 'punchier' low end response.

nice tip there Aleksey, just tried that mode, very nice. Also another thing that just made it very punchy is the vintage mode, put it on V7, wowee :D

I love this plugin more and more as I use it !

m-p is the one.

aleksey, any chance of releasing that mode as a simple track eq plugin? i know there are already many phase warping eqs around but they all have something like the expense, workflow and general implementation that i dislike.

m-p is slightly punchier, yet doesn't give me the tight end of firium.

i love curveEQ's high end though, very smooth.

aleksey, how many bands would you recommend for smooth sounding spectral matching on an entire mix?

Are you matching to reference material? You might want to try out AAMS.

scius, I guess anything below 30 bands will do.

wm, not at the moment. We have too many equalizers already: it become hard to decide which one to buy. :) I guess I'll release a totally new EQ when I get some relatively new approach/sound.
