Muzys - running out of room on the plug-ins rack!

Right - I'm getting sick of having to create mixed-down loops of things in CM Muzys when I run out of room on the plugins rack...I'm skint, so I can't afford to spend any money but what will work best? I don't use a keyboard to play melodies - just Muzys' built-in piano-roll. Is there some kind of vst that can load several at the same time that I could use? Help!

CMuzys is the version published with Computer Music mag. It's specifically limited to 5 VSTi slots, and only it's DS-404 sampler can be used multitimbral. And the developer's moved on, due to property rights issues of some sort. So, it ain't gonna change!M'Snah wrote:maybe a change request?

Have to agree with DaveL. You've hit the point at which you'd have upgraded to Muzys 3.x, were it available. But it isn't. So you're going to need to start looking for a host that you feel comfortable with. Get all the demos off the Computer Music cover disks and spend a couple of days with each, trying to ignore the annoying demo limitations and work out which you like best. (If you've not got the disks, most supplier websites also have demos -- just sometimes not as good as the CM ones.)
Cakewalk Project 5 and Live 5 should be fairly similar to the way Muzys works. You might also like to try E-XT (standalone) and Tracktion.

Great - thanks for the info guys - I've been considering checking out the demo of energyXT for a while and I've heard nothing but good things about it. Once again - thanks for the support! And Merry Christmas!

good move, bb; Energy XT is the way to go, and it is the closest to muzys as far as sequencing goes, because you can have pattern AND linear sequencing in the same track. The sequencer module itself, actually, is just as good as that of any DAW out there, but it also has the modular capability, the wonderful comunity of users and modular plugin devs, and one of the best developers ever, Jorgen
also, it will be coming to Linux natively sometime in 2006

Have you got shares in energyXT or something?

lol. most people who start using eXT fall in love with it, and want to share it with others
. It's such a wonderful toy, after you have been thru the initial learning curve.
Cheap and flexible, it can almost everything you want it to do, including using it as a sampler or slicer, arpeggiator... even as a sequencer
EDIT: I think we all wish we could buy shares though.

I just keep loading the latest version, starting at the screen for five minutes and closing it... Somehow I get a total mental block. One day there'll be a "Complete idiot's guide to getting an entire track set up from scratch without recording anything in Energy XT"... Maybe I've just not found it (through not looking during those five brain-dead minutes..!).

I'm a happy paying user of EnergyXT, and I'd recommend it to anyone because it can serve as a standalone host or under VST. If I was starting out now, I suspect it would be may main sequencer.
The one thing I find offputting about it, though, is its mode of development. I think it's amazing what Jorgen's doing with the help of so many users, but with other sequencers you usually get definite main release points at which you can dive in and say "Right, I'll get to grips with this now and really learn how to run it", then when the next release comes along, you add to what you've learned incrementally.
The development path of EnergyXT is so transparent and the updates and bugfixes come so thick and fast that I find it hard to commit to learning it inside out as it's going to change some time soon.

I am an eXT user too, but haven't ditched Muzys 3.14 yet because it's so good, and eXT still miss some features. Now Jo is working in a new host and maybe you should wait a bit to see what comes out.
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

I hope it's going to have a sampler of sorts, or the ability to load waves as "players"...the essence of Muzys was that you could build a whole song from scratch without ever touching a VSTi
