Here I sit, with Prefuse73, The Soft Pink Truth, a new Squarepusher record, Otto Shirach... Testshot Starfish, oi. oi. oi... I'm bored.... I feel so jaded... am I getting "old man syndrome" (i.e. nothing'll ever be new under the sun) or has there truly actually not been anything new under the sun in a few years?

Was 'glitch' really the final frontier?

PLEASE give me some recommendations of electronic artists/albums to hear that are actually something -NEW- to experience. I'm looking to hear some truly innovative, truly unique, truly ear turning -new- electronic music in this day and age. It has been a few years since I've heard -anything- that has required me to wrap my head around it to really understand, or enjoy it.

I know that music is a very subjective thing when it comes to opinion, so I hope this doesn't turn into a negative thread...

I'm pretty much in the same boat, but thinking about it...
a) it's not electronic, but the last Animal Collective record was pretty surprising - more because it took a while to get my head around how melodic it was than how difficult, but it's a start.
b) Animal Collective seem to be part of a wider movement called free folk or New Weirdness about which I know very little except that New Weirdness is a very promising description.
c) Someone played me a Black Dice record the other day and I couldn't make a head or tail of it. It might turn out to be genius or it might turn out to be pointless - I'm not in a position to comment until I've heard it a bit more.

i find ricardo villalobos to be really entertaining but it's a pain to find his cd's. i was lucky enough to hear a few of his tunes. really talented dude. probably not your type of music though.

I've felt that way for years. I'm not actively looking for new music anymore, and I still enjoy going back to things I discovered a decade ago. I've got other interests and I don't rely soley on music to fulfill those needs.

I guess the other problem is that if you're keeping your nose to the ground to find something really new, then it won't suddenly appear and astonish you like glitch did - I mean, I guess that if you'd been following electro-acoustic, experimental ambient and minimal techno at the time, glitch would have seemed a lot more like a natural progression than a sudden revolution.

Anything with Daniel Myer at the helm... Haujobb, Cleaner, Cryogen, Destroid. Always has something which makes you think inspirational thoughts.

But it's nice to know that there are still people driven to make inventive music...

You can get a long way by substituting 'new' with 'new to me,' though: I've got an ongoing plan to figure out what the hell serialism's all about for instance.

I really feel a great deal of the innovative music is coming from the chip music scene. There's lots of good stuff on this site. My favorites are Role Model and Nullsleep.

Whenever I feel jaded I listen to something like 'sextant' by herbie hancock or some 70s shit by miles davis.. does the trick. Damn it's refreshing to listen to something that isn't overly tainted by a sequencer.
