Out of interest, how many people around here have read Simon Reynolds' book Energy Flash (Generation Ecstacy in the US)? I keep wanting to quote bits of it, particularly on the hardcore vs progressive divide whenever "why do people creatively hamstring themselves by tailoring records to lazy DJ's" arguments come up.

I don't agree with everything he says by any manner of means (he oversimplifies hard on class / race issues, and his criticisms of 'progressive' dance genres don't (IMO) work to the extent that he takes them), but arguments keep coming up here that make me want to say "go and read this book!"
