Post

This is the very first post for the ‘log-in’ SampleStream. Following a recent poll I have decided to go with the SampleStream domain for the selling of my ‘Sounds’ – these are sounds created by Spe3d of AudioShots. The sounds will be high quality wave files from a varid range of sound sources including ambient. From completely dry to extremely wet – I hope to provide a source for both those that want to manipulate sounds further (so they really want dry unaltered waves) to those that want sounds ‘ready-to-go-‘n’-work’ in their samplers of choice.

I hope to have the site completed ready for January 2006 – its very much ‘under-construction’ at the moment.

So SampleStream ‘IS’ Spe3d – I will be using the SampleStream log in though for announcements and sample related topics – so should not take too long to get the post count up for sample stream :)

When logged in as Sample Stream I will probably not sign off using the Best regards Spe3d or Peter – so this post is to announce – Who is Sample Stream? – Well its me Peter from AudioShots aka (Spe3d)

But will we still get the occasional smiley with the big nose?

Best to you, sounds great!

I'm sure it is unintentional, but your logo is practically my SampleSquad.com icon logo rotated a bit. It bothered me a little bit that you went with the similar name SampleStream merely a week or two after I launched my site (but it's a free world and a free market), but when the logo is derivative both in design and color scheme as well, I gotta say something. Even your choice in favicon.ico is going to be confusing to customers trying to keep our sites differentiated as bookmarks. Am I being a jerk? Don't mean to be.

Shane, are you *really* sure those logos are similar? They really have very little to nothing in common as far as I can see.

Shane – this is how I see it

SampleStream.Com (my site) was registered and used for guys to download stuff from/and since July 24 2005 from within url's at AudioShots and the Auditorium

SampleSquad.Com (Your site) was registered on the 10 th December 2005

AudioShots mainly focused on free sounds from ambient recordings some of these ideal for percussion – AudioShots was set-up on the 1 st of January 2005 (quite a few of the original sounds I moved to the Auditorium which also was set up at the beginning of this year.

Take a good look at the Auditorium Logo – which was set up at the beginning of this year – I am simply following my own identity within the AudioShot framework – of which is a long term plan. I also think the SampleStream logo looks like a CD - or - a speaker - or a person holding thier hands up with joy :D

Thank you Guys :D

Quite sure. Mentally rotate my Q (which is a person holding their arms over their head). They are remarkably similar, especially as small icons.

And to reiterate the point that I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'll even offer some professional help in designing something new for Sped. I just think there are too many similarities for fair market differentiation, that's all. I've got too much work into my stuff to feel like it's being diluted.

Shane: well, the explanation helps, thank you. Honestly, I wasn't sure what your logo was, whereas I recognise the spinning disk of Peter's logo. In terms of colouration, font style, orientation etc., there's nothing similar.

As for the fav.ico - it's truly very difficult to make something that is essentially black and white shapes look very different at that scale.

No axe to grind here, I can assure you. I just don't see a similarity myself and I work with logos all the time.

Anyway, it's up to you to make the point :)

Looking at the image – I don’t think they look the same (actually you managed to get yours closer to the Auditorium look) with the heavy point size on the rings. I wanted to move away from the big half cuts and create what is my now SampleStream logo. (I don't see the point in inverting my logo either - mine is not a Q no matter how you move it about - nor is it Symmetrical to that extent (because it’s a logo)

Also if you look very closely at my fav icon you will see it’s a spinning disk – nothing like either of the logos – I had to keep my fav icon as it is as these things look terrible smaller. – check out the fav ico – you see three irregular triangles within a disk.

My main point is that if I launch a forum next week called AudioSquirts.com and I make a logo for it that looks like a speaker with soundwaves emanating from it, it will look & sound & seem derivative of AudioShots.com due to the convergence of several important factors. The graphic part is only part of the problem, imo.

At any rate, no hard feelings. I'm sure you'll make some great stuff and I look forward to being a customer at some point.

Shane, in that case you'd better take a look at SampleFusion.com as well (or they'd better take a look at you).

If my site was called SampleFashion.com or SampleFission.com, then yeah. :P

You have a strange way with word association Shane – AudioSquirts is not anything like AudioShots – it seems a bit rude actually.

Also the only forum AudioShots has is actually called the Auditorium – it is unique due to the very people that frequent it and the possibilities of free uploads and downloads without advertising in a safe environment for newbys as well as hardened pros – its unique in the very fact zero disrespectful posts takes place without any actual need for moderation on behaviour – guys just get on well there and focus on the music and sounds (also an image section)

I don’t think I would feel any bit interested in a forum called audiosquirts – its does not sound flattering or inviting.

There are one heck of a lot of Audio related forums on the internet

Indeed there is a possibility even now that someone completely untreated to AudioShots has thought just the same by using circles in a logo.

I don't think it would for the reasons above.
