Just seen this on SlashDot:

http://slashdot.org/articles/06/01/06/0 ... 01&tid=141

Most of the obvious puns have been stated:

In the Court of the Redmond King
The Lark's Tongue in Bill Gates' Ass
One More Red Nightmare (on the blue screen of death)
Easy Money etc

Quite frankly I'm shocked.

Well.. Eno created the Win95 sound, so No Pussyfooting there

I'm not that surprised in a way. RF has been at the forefront of music technology, so geting involved at the supposed forefront of techy technology isn't that different. I'm more surprised that it wasn't Apple who collared him..

Yeah, I was thinking the same thin. Wh would have thought that Billy boy had such good taste in music.

Wouldn't it be nice if he also "advised" on the actual audio system windows uses. :P Lets kill ASIO, not because it's bad, but because we shouldn't even need it.

Wow. just watched some of the video. They're really overthinking this. Here, I'll write 5 notes for them and I'll only charge half as much as Robert Fripp:

D E C C(8vb) G... oh wait, that's been taken...

Also, did anyone else half expect that namby pamby producer guy to ask Robert to hold a power crystal to his forehead while he was playing?

Well with the DRestrictionM-ladden rental schemes he and the industry is working towards he'll be the only one who can afford one anyway...

Useless system sounds are the most annoying thing ever. I used to turn them off as soon as reinstalled the system. Plus it doesnt matter if you spent millions of dollar in a sound. That "operating" system will keep being a Mac OS ripoff turd years ahead of their competitors.

It's a Xerox rip-off.

Apple paid Xerox. Microsoft as usual stole it and used illegal marketing tactics. And I don't see any Xerox OS in the market right now... But I'd ask to forgive this thing since we are talking about some new mindblowing and annoying overpaid and overproduced sounds ;)

a philosopher, a musician and a composer. all three entities killed in one single act of foolishness.

not because it's microsoft, not because they're the much-hated system farts, not because it's vista, not because he's serious about the ethic fusion between business and art...
I could even stand the continous spotting of Roland's gear.
but now it's too much. the guy simply wants to be hated.

he is also a convinced mac user, which sounds even more pathetic.
decline comes. let's face it.

Not to sound like an MS Fanboy, but with WDM do we actually need ASIO? I think ASIO4ALL is a great demonstration of what WDM is capable of. If this statement sounds retarded, feel free to clue me in...

You're making a big assumption that Fripp is an expert in computer audio... aren't you?

Post

I agree here, we shouldnt need 3rd party standards to get low latency audio out of yer OS, its up to the OS vendor.

amen, just imagine the sheer number of meetings that will occur after Fripp's done recording to try & decide which 10 second blip to send to management for approval.
