Hi, I've got this terribly annoying problem.

I use a hardware synth (a Virus) with FL Studio; I hook it up with Midi Out.

BUT

When I press a key on MIDI OUT or simply write a note in the sequencer and press play, it sounds different as when I simply press a key on the synth itself. Same patch, but different sound; sometimes almost inexistant; sometimes slightly; sometimes awfully different.

what may be the matter?

thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like your sending MIDI on a different channel from the one your playing on the actual virus. Most synths have a multi-mode where each MIDI channel can play a different sound, this most likely what is happening. Your manual should have some info on this.

But I have it on channel 1...and actually the patch that sounds IS the same, not another one...but altered.

And I'm using it in single mode...

Post

that is wierd. Is the alteration to the sound consistent, like everytime it alters it the same way or is it just random?

Post

I think it's pretty consistent. It's just that with some sounds it's more noticeable than with others, that's all.

could be FL is sending something else along with the note data? Maybe a CC got set somewhere by accident? Could also try FL forums or Access support, maybe someone else has had a similar problem.

Post

I'm already trying FL forum and Scott thinks it may be related to Velocity. However, I have velocity linked to 'none', so apparently there shouldn't be any problem from what I understand...but there is, that I can assure.

When you play the synth, is the midi also going through your PC and out to the synth, causing two triggers of the note?

grab the midi tools demo here :

take a look at what info is being sent ...

FL puts all kinds of CC resets in the MIDI-OUT. One possibility is to filter only note messages through MIDI-OX. Also, you might have better results with a Dashboard than a MIDI-OUT generator.

Yeah It seems the same to me...
I don't know how are your midi connections, but try to keep *just* the PC-midi-OUT----->VIRUS-midi-IN
connection and see what goes on.

There is a parameter in the Midi menu called Midi Panel Destination. Set this one to MIDI.
That should do the trick.

"try to keep *just* the PC-midi-OUT----->VIRUS-midi-IN "
that's exactly how I have them connected...

And actually I have local off and Midi panel to Int+Midi; I have just tried changing it only to MIDI but with the same results...

ah, and I've tried it in Sonar...and exactly the same results, sound's altered dramatically in some cases.

Any weird midi-yoke type virtual midi cable stuff going on?
