Ok, this will be easy to answer for all of you GURUS. But I cannot get this to work. I have a MIDI controller hooked up via MIDI cables to my M-AUDIO FIREWIRE 410. When I load a VST (z3ta, superware) there is no sound when I try to control with a MIDI controller. Project volume is up, all events play, but when I try to play the VST it does not work. If I open a new midi track and record notes then move it to a VSTi, it will play it if I just try to play with VSTi in real time it does not work.

The instrument is clearly getting data, I see it in the volume of the instrument, I also see midi going up and down. Why no output sound?

It works in ACID, ORION but not in CUBASE!

Have you clicked (enable) the speaker icon under the MIDI track name? When enabled, the speaker will be highlighted. I don't have any problem.

Kenny.

Check midi through is enabled in the preferecnes.

Also the Midi port driver used can make a difference. Some drivers work with Emulated ports, but I have seen cases where Midi thorugh apparently didn't work, and the driver for the input device was the problem.

Have you presented this issue on the Steinberg forum already? They are pretty good about these kinds of inquiries.
