There's a 14-second segment near the end of Madonna's Hollywood on her American Life album that I assume is a pitch change from her voice to that of a male. Anyone know how this was actually done?

Sounds like a great name for a pitch-shifting VST.Kriminal wrote:hormone replacement therapy

Ehh, are we talking about changing the formants?
I have not heard that specific part, though.
Applications like Melodyne makes such things with ease.

I have the clip if you give me a place to send it to. Or I suppose I could post it on one of the file download sites. Then maybe you could tell me (and others) how it was done.BobYordan wrote:Ehh, are we talking about changing the formants?

sounds like a really good morph to me, then again pitch shifts can be pretty convincing

The producer of that album - Stuart Price (alias 'Jacques le Cont') is a shithot techy. He's used that trick on some of his Les Rhytmes Digitales work, and has also used a variant in his other side project - Zoot Woman. (Who are ace BTW)
Howzit done though? Dunno.

I 'thought' (as in, probably dreamt it) I'd heard somewhere that the difference between a male and female voice is approx one octave - so maybe it's just her voice being pitched down an octave over that 14 seconds? Dunno, like I say, probably talking out of me arse...
