I am looking for a host sequencer that is free and can be installed such that it can be moved around to different computers without new installation.

Audacity has this capability, but I cannot sequence/compose in audacity.

I have a 1gb flash drive.

Not free but allmost (50€) -> Energy XT

what an intriguing idea
this definitely competes with my mobile ideal of film scoring with a laptop on the boardwalk
any public library becomes a composer's forum

i would think that something small enough perhaps energyXT, that can be run off the flash drive would qualify.
just install it on there. if it fits it should work

love EXT, yet there's a little problem: eXT nedds asio drivers and most public pcs neithers have asio drivers installed nor allow you to install somithing like asio4all

...........but there is a workaround: use SAVIHost ( http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1290.html its free! and runs without asio) and use it to host the eXT vst-plugin.
works fine for me.

How about Muzys? - can run from a USB drive (installs all into one directory which can be moved anywhere) and can use ASIO or Directsound drivers. There's even a free version (CM Muzys)

Buzz works! i think they still have a stealth download on www.buzzmachines.com This is just a cut down version with the best and essential machines, will fit nicely on a usb drive. I suggest ur at least familiar with basic tracking to get ur head round the sequencer tho
