Good weekend to you all.

Has anyone tried the Soundscan2 libraries....any good? I can't find anywhere on the site where it says what quality the recordings were done at.

http://www.soundscan2.com/index.html

There are a couple ethnic packages that I would like to buy and these are relatively inexpensive. Was hoping to REX something unique and run it through RMX for fun. :)

Thoughts and comments?

I've got 6 or 7 of these. Version 2's are good and work in more formats. Some of the version 1's
are good as well, but it's kinda hit or miss - these are limited to wav, aiff, akai and audio files. I've got several of the ethnic ones, so if you'll tell me which ones you're interested in,I can probably give you my opinion. None are really bad, so it's a pretty good value.

Thx algodon,
I am interested in Indian Traditions and Asian Traditions. The demos sound interesting but you never really know what you are getting with those libraries.....interested in hearing your reply. :)

Indian Traditions is version 1 and just OK. Several one-shot phrases cut off too abruptly. Still worth having at the reduced price, but it's almost always out of stock. The Big Fish audio title of the same name is outstanding, but cost more.

Asian Traditions is version 2 and is very nicely done. A few too many Gongs and Gamelans for such a small collection (39 samples), but still a great value. LEGEND OF CHINA, again by Big Fish is spectacular, but again cost may be an issue.

Neither Soundscan versions give you any recording or sample rate information, but I've been satisfied with the quality.

Hope this helps.

If you have any more questions let me know.

I was looking at the bass guitar collection. The multi-sampled one.

The demo sounds good. I was wondering how well they actually play.

Thanks Stephen,
That helps a great deal. I noticed the Big Fish Asian Traditions does not have loops. I really need that as I can't play the peng zhong to save my life.
I'd really like to go after some of the higher end sample libraries but I want to try a few tricks with something more a affordable first and then if I have some success with it I will move up in quality. I really want to try some of the Spectrasonics/Ilio Vocal and Ethnic stuff as it is always top shelf but so is the price....gorgeous sound though. :hyper:

Yep, BFA's Asian Traditions is just Chinese percussion, but BFA's Indian Traditions and Legend of China both have a gazillion loops. I think they're on sale right now too.

If you're just testing the waters though, I'm
sure you'll be satisfied with the Soundscan stuff.

Good Luck.

You know, I'd already gone through my Indian loop phase with the Soundscan version when I heard a long demo with BFA's IT. I wish I'd gotten it instead.
Trust me it's way cool, and yeah, it's a much better value in the long run. Snag it while you can if you've got the $$.

I do have an Indian piece, but it's made up of several loop sources, live playing and field recordings, and I could'nt tell you what was from where - it's been awhile.
