Basically, I discovered along time ago that a limitation cap can fuel your mind's inspiration. I've said this before; blah blah blah..."When I was just wee and played with k'nex, all the coolest things i made were from starting out with a hand full of pieces and forcing myself to make something with only those pieces."
However, I've often had trouble applying this to music production on the computer. I tried only selecting a few plug-ins for my computer, but I don't want to completely forget about a bunch of great plugs out there.
So, if you're like me and will stare into hundreds of instrument and effect choices, tRy THIS:
Only use synths of a certain color. Seriously, Start by loading up a synth with a yellow GUI, and then only apply effects with yellow interfaces in that project. Call the song "Yellow" or something. The best part about this is how much you will tie the color yellow into the song as well.
Silly thread, I know, but i should of thought of this a while ago.

they did a track called "yellow" it was actually named after the phone book the yellow pages.

true it is generic and its been done that way for centuries =) I just wanted to say it's easy to lose focus on the song structure when tweakin VST knobs.
