I hope there's an easy solution, I use too many hosts and far to many plugins to know / remember all the important details ;).

I'm using LiveSlice in the eXT sequencer, and I notice that:

a) after selecting a few loops in different slots in LiveSlice, suddenly my eXT project file is 16MB instead of a few 100kb;

b) When I click LiveSlice in eXT, it's very slow to display (first a small white square, then the entire GUI), but after that most of it works correctly;

c) After adding 5-6 loops to free slots, suddenly I cannot add more loops. I can click them in the file browser, but nothing happens. Saving and restarting eXT helps a bit, but after another 5-6 loops the same thing happens again.

eXT 1.4 beta 6 Jan.
LiveSlice 1.30 (the only one I have).
The checkbox for "Save audio data in songs/banks" is switched off.

EDIT:
I'm doing some tests now in an empty eXT project: When I check the "save audio" checkbox, the project file increases as expected (from 40kb to 25MB), but when I uncheck the "save audio" checkbox, it remains at 25MB, even when I do a "save as" to a new project file...

What do I do wrong?

i remembered there was a topic in the energyXT forum about filesizes increasing, and i think it's not connected to LS. here is the link to the thread

Thanks.

It feels to me like the checkbox to save audio in the project file is a one way street. And if it's not a Liveslice problem...

I also suspect that the problems are related, e.g. memory use or something. (of course that's just a wild guess ;) ).

Thanks for the pointer to that thread. It doesn't solve my issue right now, but it's good to know that it's a known problem.

btw. Loading 10-20 loops in the slots, and using 10-15 arrangements is supposed to work smoothly, right? or should I use 10-15 LiveSlices for that?

i think it should work in one instance of LS, but i never used that much loops at once. ;)
but afair the capacity for loops is 64, so give it a try. :)

you are right - it's a liveslice problem. Once audio files are saved in a project they stay that way - I'll get to that fix soon.
Also the audio data and parameter saving could be a little smarter, and save some space.

You should be able to load 32 loops without a problem. Audio data is stored as 32 bit however, so your loops will take a little over twice the size of the wave file. How much memory do you have on your system? If it's win XP you can press CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE to bring up the joblist and keep an eye on the memory consumtion of the "standalone.exe" process (energy xt with only liveslice open).

I never heard about the display problem you mention. Sounds like it may have something to do with the resize functionality - I'll send you a test build as soon as I find anything.

I'll run some more tests tomorrow myself. I promise these problems will be addressed already this week.

Thanks.

I wasn't going over 32 loops yet. I'll do some more tests later, right now I switched from LiveSlice to StormDrum, because I had promised my wife to arrange a few songs for her before tomorrow :). After that I can do some more testing. I´m running XP SP2 with 1Gb of memory, but I don´t always use a clean system, it may have been running for a few days, with different hosts, webcams, etc, so that may have impact on the memory use.

I fixed the audio data in project file problem and took care of a wave file preview bug that could be causing the "cannot load more than 6 files" problem - I'll send you the next beta in an email (soon).

Thanks. Don't rush... Quality is more important than speed, and sometimes my boss keeps me very busy during the week:D, keeping me away from my important musical efforts.

I finally found out what caused the limitation in number of loaded files - it was the bitmaps used to display the wave file data.

It turned out that the number of waveform bitmaps I was allowed to generate was depending on the graphics driver - so some drivers would allow 10 files other 30.

I changed the way I allocate these bitmaps to keep them out the graphics driver. This could mean a slight increase in memory consumption on some systems though, but it's better than not being able to load more than 20 loops.

Great :), Congrats on solving and fixing it.

These are the better types of bugs, completely not music/VST related, but dependent on some other parts of the PC.
