...for the Nintendo DS:

Anyone played with it?

Are DS's any good - I could be tempted.

I haven't played it. But I read a good review on www.gamespot.com and I'm intrigued. The fact that you can't 'save' performances is a real downer though.

On the subject of the DS itself though - its awesome! My lovely, generous, amazing gf bought me one for Christmas and I'm playing it alot. I don't know if you are much of a classic gamer, but if you are Castlevania DS is enough to warrant a purchase by itself...

Ok, just took a quick test run of Electroplankton while on the crapper. It is more of an experience than a game or a tool. It has some abstract sequencing aspects but you cannot save anything. It has some generic sounds like piano and some bleeps and bloops but no hard resonating synth sounds that would have really made it cool. I feel like I should be playing it on some stage in an art gallery wearing a beret and talking about aliens and ufos or some other nonsense.

I can’t really recommend this as a buy because you may get bored after 10 minutes and never use it again.

The Synth/Sequencer that came with the old Gameboy Camera was much, much cooler to me. It was just an interface to the existing audio hardware but let you tweak the waveform and the sequence it was playing in real time and even save them.
