ST2.1 sound update worth the money?

Hey folks! I'm considering the ST2.1 sound update (would be $99 for me) and I'm wondering if it's worth the money. Can't even seem to find a list of included instruments anywhere (link anyone?). Anyone here who bought the update already and cares to share some info/experience?

I know you want to hear from users, but I will also put my 2 cents in since SR worked on it. I think it is especially worth it if you don't have all of the Sonik Capsules (because we put bonus sounds from those in there) and if want a variety of new world instruments, percussion, organs, drums plus an overhaul of the previous library with some improvements and tweaks. Also, if you don't have Miroslav Philharmonik there are 10 beautiful dynamic orchestra patches in ST2.1 that are really great to have (and a nice taste to hint toward getting that Philharmonik crossgrade). Plus there are some bonus riffs to play with the new Stretch and PS/TS engines...
So, I think it is worth it considering $99 is the price of one Expansion Tank and you get much more than that.

Actually, you can never count on that so I would pick it up while you can for that price.loachm wrote:...thanks for the reply - as I'd like to focus on other things currently. But to make sure the price of 99$ is also available for an unlimited time?

Actually, I don't use it - T-Racks is the only thing I use from the Studio Bundle. It would only be, because it would be shame to keep it not up to date. But I guess, the 99$ aren't just an introductory price and though not being able to count on this price, and as your customer support has always been excellent, I'll count on you to inform about a forthcoming price raise when it's about time...

OK, I'll venture my 2 eurocent's worth here..
Maybe I am being overly critical here (and maybe I am still a bit put off by the fact that after shipping cost + customs + VAT etc etc I ended up paying pretty close to twice the heralded 99 Euros...) but I am not *very* happy... the thing is (and maybe I am confused here, if so please enlighten me) the DVDs seem to come with pretty much all of the legacy sounds on them....I also had a few expansion packs etc before I started installing the 2.1 DVDs... so: after installing them I rellay have no idea which sound are new and which ones I had from before. And/or maybe I am getting a bit jaded... my feeling now is that I used to have say, 15 "good-but-not-stellar" trumpets, now I have... 18? Maybe?
Which is not to say the sounds aren't *good*, I just wish there was an indication somewhere of which ones are new and which ones are old. I am really drowning in sounds now, I really wish I had made a listing of what I had before I installed the new stuff...)
(and still no nice, tube-y solo el-guitar sound in sight...the way it sounds in *my* head anyway
I still have to revert to my 1990 Ensoniq ASR10 sampler for that...)

For Tube-y solo e-guitar there is always Studiophonik which is coming.
ST2.1 sounds were "gone through" and redone. So there are different levels of that. Some are just taking a sound and improving it from the previous version. The same trumpet but maybe a little louder, cleaned up a little, tuned better or whatever was found either by us or users who wrote in over the years.
Then there were added instruments (this could have been documented I agree, although it blends in for the overall experience.... not like "and NOW there is a new DJEMBE you've all been waiting for!!!!").
The stuff from expansions which is a nice edition especially if one doesn't have them all already is I believe in a special section of bonus sounds or something. I have to check. There's also bonus riffs added. But, anyway, I think I gave a general description in this forum of what sort of categories of instruments that were added (cathedral organs, world instruments, orchestral sounds...) at least. There are 10 Miroslav performance orchestra layers for example (pretty good value just there honestly... remembering how much Miroslav sounds cost otherwise... for some people those sounds are all they need to get at least a quick LUSH orchestration in say a pop tune).
As I said before, not ALL of the stuff from previous ST2 has made it moving forward. But most of it has because most of it is good for something, even if some are still better than others (for instance, the dub Sax is not my favorite but I talked to someone who did reggae and hip hop who said he LOVES that sound). So, we were careful with what we took out. I think the "All my love" phrases are now gone though for example. Probably someone misses them!
I didn't think they were that useful really. Some cool new ones though more suitable for R&B, Pop etc.

hi squids,
suprised there isnt more detailed info about all the new sounds. anyway, could you tell me how many/what kind of new sounds there are in the following 2 categories: pianos and brass.

Squids,
Not to hijack the thread but a question just hit me. I'm keeping ST 2 installed as well as ST 2.1 to assure compatability with older works. What's the deal with the new sounds? Are they backwards compatable with ST 2 tunes. In other words, what's your suggestion for installation - over the existing sound libraries or "pay" the extra storage space and install as a separate library.
Thanks,
Dan

Those that can, do. Those that can't, argue about it on k-v-r

the programming has been changed and/or improved for a number of sounds. Those one's will not be compatible.dgkenney wrote:Squids,
