Hello All......
I wanted to post some songs for all to check out. All songs are copyrighted of course, however please feel free to share the links with others, etc.. If you would like to use one of the songs as background music for a site, or on a published CD compilation, or any non-personal usage, please feel free to PM me and let me know of your intentions. I'm not in this for the money, however I would like people to extend me the courtesy of at least asking prior to non-personal use. Beyond that.....thanks for listening!

real quick - i'm only getting the first 23 seconds of "the next step."

My favorite tunes were maneuver and in 20 years part 2. you have some awesome guitar sounds throughout those tunes and i love how you really mix it up as far as the sound goes. excellent production and mixes. proprietor of fine music for sure - the hot sauce i'll leave you to.

Thanks for the props! Glad you liked the stuff. Weird about the 20 sec thing. Works fine from my end......hmmmm. Strange. If you keep having issues with that one, PM me and I'd be happy to send you the mp3 via email. Sorry you were having problems with that. Glad you liked the songs though. And thanks for the props on the production side of things. I work just as hard at that end of things as I do the actual guitar playing. It can be grueling sometimes and I feel like I have a long ways to go all around.

Please tell us a little about the production. Are the guitars mic'ed or direct? Thats some crunchy sounding rhythm which sounds mic'd from a nice amp, but with todays technology you can fool anyone.

Yep.....it's all direct. LOL A combination of a Line6 FlextoneIIXL, a Marshall TSL100 head's direct outs, a Line 6 Vetta, a few Boss COSM amp models from my old Roland VS-1680, and lots of pedals like the Line6 Filter Modeler, the L6 Modulation Modeler, a Digi-tech WH-1 Whammy, a Digi-tech X-Series Synth-Wah, and a Boss V-Wah. Varies from song to song of course. I have since sold the Marshall amp, as well as the Flextone and the Modulation Modeler pedal. I just have the Vetta now and I've even been getting really good results with just a Line6 GuitarPort on certain things. Just depends. If there are certain spots or tones in certain songs that you are curious about, just let me know and I'll check in my tracking notes and post stuff.

I'm a V-Amp user as well as the various vst amp sims, but I must say the Line 6 stuff sounds great for that $400-800 you spend, you get some great crunch that doesnt sound muddy and breaks up quite nicely in a mix. My friend's cousin just got a Tone Port that I've been itchin to try out. With the extra amp models available for it, like the Bogner models, seems like there is a world of tone to be had. In the VST world, the Green Machine 2 comes pretty close, and the free Juicy 77 ampsim sounds decent for heavy crunch as well. That vst 5150 Xmas tube amp is sounding awesome, can't wait til that's released. Now if I only had a nice pre-amp for my Soldano 50watt custom mod head (has a channel switch for clean/crunch as well as a little toggle switch for vintage/modern). yeah by the way, what was your signal route, pre-amp/DI-box etc.? Diggin the style. I almost passed it off as another Satch clone, but i really like the breakdowns and little riffs over top with clever use of effects etc. Nice to see people use these new fan-dangled effects creatively. And drums, programmed I assume, good stuff as well

Also liked how you threw in some electronic sounds to the drums as well. I read Jimmy Chamberlain (ex Smashing Pumpkins drummer) said if your gonna program drums instead of recording real ones, use electronic samples in there too, cuz it just wont sound natural and too convincing.

Thanks again Metalifuxx! Routing wise I either used the amps' XLR direct outs straight to the Roland VS-1680's mic inputs or sometimes I first put the amp's direct outs through an old Aphex 107 tube mic pre and then into the Roland, or if the parts were tracked on my PC then I plugged the Vetta's direct out's into my Presonus Firepod and then into my laptop using Tracktion2 as software. Most everything in the future will be using the Vetta/Firepod combination or else the L6 GuitarPort interface, using T2. I'm pretty happy with the L6 stuff overall although I do own a Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro rack unit that has some decent guitar tones tucked in there. However, most all of the bass tracks were through the original Bass POD (not the newer XT) or in some cases direct using old distortion pedals combined with a second uneffected direct signal to balance punch and grind.
Drum-wise on "Something Coming", "The Next Step", and "In 20 Years Pt2" I used a Roland Groovebox for everything (which I no longer have) and kept it fairly simple. Those songs almost have a Satch-meets-StaticX vibe to it (or so I've been told numerous times). On "Maneuver #5", all of the drums were programmed from scratch on a Korg Karma using the "Future Loops" expansion board for the actual drum sounds/tones. On "The In Between" the primary drum loop was from a loop from the Korg Karma using the same "Future Loops" expansion board and then the drums that come in towards the end are me playing drums on my Roland TD-20 V-Drums kit. About the Karma, I Ebayed the Karma three months ago because I have so many VST synths now that sound better to my ears. And drums done in future projects will either be using the V-Drums, Drums On Demand loops (great stuff), or VST's as needed. Who knows what the equipment line-up will be in 5 or 10 years. Everything keeps getting better and better.
Also, per amp sim VST's, I've tinkered around on some of the Amplitube stuff as well as some of the Native Instruments Guitar Rig stuff. Some of that stuff sounds pretty good but I seem to keep going back to Line6 tones. It's kind of the "If it ain't broke then don't fix it" mentality. For better or worse I think since I've had the Vetta and GuitarPort I've been lazy/content in my search for tones and I haven't really messed with a lot of the freebie VST amp sims out there. I keep finding what I want with what I've got on hand, which is a good thing. So many choices.....

got all of the "next step" now. kind of a technoish rock tune. i liked it though 'cause it was different.

i was relistening to a couple of the tunes and was kinda hoping some vocals would appear over them. any thoughts on that or you strictly instrumental? either way, the tunes still rock.

Vocals are in the works, however the songs seem to be a slightly less heavy/techno vein. Apart from this sort of instrumental vein, I've ditched most trendy post-NU-metal stuff, especially as far as what bands I listen to or enjoy. I'm trying to make the upcoming vocal stuff sound more timeless so it will still sound relevant in ten or twenty years. Actually I think it will be good to have a heavier instrumental side of music like the stuff I posted, and then have a completely different thing going with vocals. I look at them as two seperate directions/entities and I will always present them as such. Also, the vocal stuff will probably have a different project name since some of it involves collaborations with other people. The instrumental stuff has just been me so far. Glad you liked the everything and glad you managed to get "The Next Step" all the way downloaded. Happy listening!

Very cool tunes! I liked Maneuver #5 and Something Coming - the latter making me feel like I'm in a heated match in Unreal Tournament (PC game). Keep up the great work!

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. We are currently working on a creepy short silent film and are scoring for it right now as a way to help teach my oldest son how to do that sort of thing. But hopefully I will get some more guitar tunes going fairly soon. I am also putting together a power trio for playing around here locally. Not as much techno stuff but more "band" sounding. Never a dull moment.
