I will be in the LA area this weekend.
Does anybody know how can I attend the NAMM show as non-NAMM member?
Do I need an invitation? or something...

well actually i think passes are stretched beyond just people in the instrument business- for example all the studio owners and high profile musicians that attend every year. usually those people get their passes from the record labels though.
there's also a lot of low-profile musicians who just magically end up with passes i have no clue how though. unfortunately, a lot of people find their way into namm by questionable means, but with about a day left it would be hard to come by passes like this.
i beleive some organizations are trying to make trade shows more open to the public and you get ones like AES, Messe, newer shows like Remix Hotel that are easier to enter. But at the end of the day namm is not about showing products to the public it's about selling to stores/chains, and getting the word out for magazines and media companies.

I know from the UK shows that companies will get some passes, then reuse those passes using different people each day. I'm sure that is naughty though.

You have to know someone who can get you passes. We've used up all of ours this year (and would have liked to have had Tunesy and Kim with us this time like last year but we couldn't do it). However, if anyone is able to procure a pass then come by and visit SR at booth 6331. Also check out the IK booth which is bigger and badder this year... plus a few surprises during a press conference today that I will be MC'ing over there.

ha yeah i would've liked to gone too but last year was exciting enough to tide me over for a long time. for anyone who hasnt been to a namm show, it's tiring! you're on your feet all day and then at night you're out partying... up early the next morning to make it back to the booth and look your best. wash, lather, rinse, repeat for three days. hopefully i'll go back next year or check out some different shows in 2006Squids wrote:You have to know someone who can get you passes.
