Hi !!

There are a couple of VSTplugins or standalone applications (like Panorama / Maven3D / Dieselpower / etc) which promise ...

... "a virtual experience closer to reality than you could ever imagine. The only equipment you need is a regular headset, and the playback media you already have" ...
... "a specialized tool for creating stunningly realistic 3-D audio scenes using regular stereo sound. Pan sounds in three dimensions: not just left and right, but up, down, front, back, near, and far"...
"give you the power to put specific sounds in specific places" ...

I have tried out half a dozen of tools aimed to deliver "true 3d positioning" with headphones but
all I noticed was a little bit of enhanced stereo
effect but by no means sth like "stunningly realistic 3-D audio scenes".

I cant imagine those companies exagerating that much as any potential customer can try out the demos before purchasing the tools and make a test.

Is there sth wrong with my ears ?

What are your experiences ??

Kind regards TOM

:-o

oh dear.. you have a lot to learn about marketing.

basically, they will tell you anything you want to hear. and usually when you come across such claims, you can safely bet you will be disappointed with the product.

You're never going to get real surround sound out of stereo speakers. Plug-ins are just code, not magic ;)~

There's a nice 3d plug by Prosoniq tho, which i have used a lot in the past. The best way to get surround sounds tho is to use a 5.1 mixing set up, which, incidentally, is HEAPS of fun

I work with (graphical) 3D-Design software and the results you can achieve there do not come close to reality - they match reality !!

After all its just applied physics - and code can indeed perform the magic of virtual simulation of reality - at least in the field of visual arts.

Thats why my expectations where much bigger than what
came through my headphones :)

I haven't found any miracle stereo surround sound either... There is a free plugin called soundhack? (I think that was the name) that works just as good
