Thank you DSP :D

I have been toying with the idea of multi point recordings, this turned out quite fun to make, I have a few ideas how this kind of thing might be of benefit to some (then again any excuse to sample stuff that is non conventional is cool with me, I cant seem to help it  )

Anyhow, wind is the next free samples, but that will be dual mono and a stereo mix. :)

Best regards,

Peter

He normally lives in a dark cupboard and only comes out when extreme cleaning is required, I think he had a bit of a shock lately though

Nice. :) Did you have any phasing problems since you were using more than two mics?

Post

Thank you Genetic :D

I found phase issues can mainly come from using the wrong type of microphone for the job in hand – ie a mic that’s designed for a certain frequency range and spl, and used on something it was not designed for, then the phase can go nuts, tie that into a mix and the whole thing is chucked out – the question then is, is it wanted for that kind of effect.

I think phase is important for single point sounds and needs to be corrected, for example if the sound waves are hitting the mics at opposite angles, this is a simple thing to sort out (either by software or at time of recording with hardware) with phase reverse on one of the mics – preferably the only one that is different from the rest.

Using a mix of ‘different’ types of mic also helps, but then that’s the point of using more than one mic on a single sound, to capture more of its tonal qualities imo. Each mic having a different tonal property. But the thing to look out for is the rogue mic, the one that shifts about too much for the job in hand.

Best regards,

Peter
