recording with FL

I have been playing around with a guitar. I want to play through FL Studio so I can use Trash and other effects live. I am using my laptop's built in soundcard and ASIO 4ALL. There is a noise that grows louder and louder in FL when I start recording, then I have to shut it down.
Is this impossible without a decent soundcard? I can record with other software, but what I really want is to hear the effects as I play.

I think I will. I usually get quicker responses here.

check to see if your card has anything that says "waht you hear" on it's applet or something like that, if so uncheck it (or check it if it isn't checked)...you're getting a feedback loop...tk421 wrote:I have been playing around with a guitar. Double click on volume icon in system tray (if it isn't there go to control panel ---> 2click on sound and audio devices in volume tab check place volume icon in taskbar) and if you can't see "what you hear channel" on it click on options ---> properties ---> Recording --- and check what you hear.tk421 wrote:Where can I find that?

Now that I can record, I am getting lots of unwanted static and noise with my guitar. The guitar was free, so it is not the best. I am using a 1/8" pin cable in my laptop with a 1/4" adapter in the guitar. I have tried several different apps for recording, all give lots of noise.
Is it my cable, guitar, soundcard, etc.? What would be the most obvious improvement I could make? Would using a mic and amp be better?

After playing a bit, the noise is still there even when the cables are unplugged. It goes away when I change the "in" setting on the mixer to "none". I assume this means I need a better soundcard. Am I right?
