If he removes it from his system and transfers registration to you, you're okay. If he doesn't, you're illegal, won't be able to get support or upgrade, etc. Does he use Reason any more? If not, make him an offer.

I think if you happen to still have the plastic registration card that comes with Reason, then you can just create an account at propellerheads and use the details on the card to register.

Also, you say your brother is giving you Reason 1. Has he already upgraded? i.e., he has Reason 2/3 and is giving you his old Reason 1? If so, I think Reason and upgrades are considered "1 purchase" across all versions and you can't split them up.Q: I have bought a used copy of Reason and when I try to register it, I get a message saying the license number is already registered to someone else. What is going on?
A: Most likely, your copy of Reason is still registered to the previous owner. The easiest way to solve this is for you to scan your authorization card and email it to us and we'll transfer the registration to your account (as long as you tell us what account you want it transferred to). Should you happen to have bought a used copy of Reason without getting the authorization card (bad idea, we strongly suggest you demand to get the card or have your money back), we need a letter from the seller, asking us to transfer the registration to your user account.

fandango is right.

This refers to selling, but applies to giving away as well. He can keep it and not give it to you, or he can give it to you and remove his, but you can't legally both have it installed. :-)

Sounds good. Long as he removes it from his system and you register it in your name you'll be cool, be legal, and have a BIG box of music-making gizmos. Be sure to register for the Propellerhead forums too, so you can get to the Props User Forum where the experts hang out and give the best advice.
