hello.
my tv box starts to resonate when volume is too loud.
the good part is that plastic resonance makes a sweet harmonic distort. is there any way to simulate this in software ? i mean - phisical devices like plastic / glass / metal cages etc used to resonate using some music source ?

i use / know a lot of software but i didnt heard that yet ... maybe someone could code it ( even its hellish hard i imagine ) or to use some already made tools to achieve it ...

thanks - i hope this thread will start smth interesting :)

You could record a impulse response of the TV set and load it into SIR.

Post

yes i can but i dont have a good mic right now :(
is there any impulse collection of low-fi devices !?

Post

Have you checked noisevault.com ?

Post

yes i did ... there are some good lo-fi impulses but not from tv ...

http://www.xs4all.nl/~fokkie/IR.htm
Found these after some googling. Dunno if there is a TV in there somewhere but there were radios and telephones.

Post

the problem is that the impulses are not enough - the fx is more complexe and dynamic in a way ...
maybe xoxos has something to say about that.

Post

Yeah, you'll probably need dynamic convolution,ie IRs with different volume. The market for such a thing is probably quite small. :D

i was asking maybe for some physical modeling of places made out of diffrent materials. who knows - i know how hard is to make that but maybe some insane coder will do it someday ...

Post

He hehe... Never more true words were spoken ;)

You cant convolute distortiion...
But you can add one before the IR.

That is true but he was talking about some resonaces in his TV set and those you can convolve.

Post

Right, but if it is mixed with the distotrion of the TV/speaker,
the resnance must be convoluted and than a distortion added before the IR.
(and EQ after it maybe)
Another thing, the IR should be done with a loud sine sweep not with a dirac. ;)
Voxengo Deconvolver will help.(demo full funtional)

Izotope trash has some similarish stuff, different resonances/distortions from the inside of a piano, small speakers, etc. Not free, but the plugin is well worth it, can be used for much more than just guitar...

Post

Yes, Izotope trash is really good !
