This has probably been asked 1000 times before, but..
Which hosts will run on 64 bit windows?
Cheers.

The only XP64 audio host, that I know of, that is fully native 64-bit coded, from the ground up, to work in a 64-bit environment, is SONAR 5 x64. Even all the included fx & softsynths bundled with SONAR 5 x64 have been coded for 64bit. Cakewalk includes both 32bit & 64bit versions when you purchase SONAR 5.

Actually NTrack has been 64bit for a while
Maybe cheap as chips, but it was ahead of Sonar I believe. It's also the first to sit properly on top of .Net (not that is necessarily an asset, but the forward thinking is commendable)

I was using the beta version of SONAR 64-bit, with Windows 64-bit beta. That was nearly a year ago.n-Track website wrote:1/4/06 - Version 4.1.5 32 & 64 bit versions released
Not to detract from n-tracks merits - as it looks good.

Yeah, Cakewalk was the first to the dance when it announced the public beta of SONAR 5 x64, during Winter NAMM 2005, over a year ago. But, kudos to n-Track, for being at the forefront, of XP native 64-bit audio hosts too. I believe that SONAR 5 & n-Tracks are the only current shipping native 64-bit audio hosts, for XP.

You can now add Bidule to this list.
There is a downloadable 120 day trial of XP x64 btw here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bi ... trial.mspx
From my tests Bidule is roughly 15 to 20% faster under x64 than under x86-32.
Cheers

No the beta link above is for winxp x64. I can confirm that most native(non emulation) apps do indeed run faster on x64 Sonar defintely shows improvement.

Too difficult to follow his link to the WinXP x64 Edition page, was it?rocketman5 wrote:I assume you were running a Vista beta when you did these tests?davidv@plogue wrote:From my tests Bidule is roughly 15 to 20% faster under x64 than under x86-32.![]()

WinXP, 64-bit version. As available retail. Not Vista.

sorry only joking.
steinberg have the right idea they'll be releasing cubase sx4 about the same time as vista will be released , i really can't see no point in sonars 64bit version at the moment as 64bit is still a cloudy area at this present time
I'll certainly stick to 32 bit until all the creases are ironed out , then ill have a smooth transition to 64bit , this will also save alot of money & headaches.

TBH i rarely use my x64 partition. However, it is encouraging to see that the 64 bit jump actually *does* lead to increased performance. I think that the bit bridge feature of SONAR gets overlooked, when really it is an amazingly good idea. you can still run yer 32bit vsts, even if you have some devs who are reluctant to port their products. It works very well too.
