Well, there are a lot more than just ten, really, so you might want to narrow down what kind of effects you want. There's also a dedicated forum here for these kinds of questions, probably been answered several times in just the last month, so you might find what you're looking for already.
But must-haves for me:
Devine Machine minion
Voxengo Boogex
Noizware Tridirt
Luxonix LFX-1310
buzzroom buzmaxi 3
KarmaFX Synth
mnb particlecloud
Obertone filterbank
Tone2 Bifilter
Supatrigga
Ixox Delay
Posifohpit
Helium Cortex
And five bundles: TinyFX, xhipeffects, Kjaerhus Classic Series, Simulanalog Guitar Suite, Betabugs Bugpack.
I use those things all the time. I could probably list about a hundred more that I've used at least once a week since getting.
Please also consider donating to the freeware devs if you dig their stuff.

Oh shoot, I forgot tBt stuff, all of it is worth trying. And NDA stuff. And that awesome suboctave distortion thing that ConcreteFX has.Sidhu wrote:Mastering :

But regarding limiters, give a buzmaxi3 a try. I haven't mastered tracks with it at all, but I use it as a line limiter when experimenting with stuff, to avoid my head blowing off from any loud bursts. It's the best thing I've come across for that purpose.

Still can't go wrong with the old MDA VST pack - still the most useful nuts-and-bolts package out there after all these years.

Are there any freebies that produce bizarre effects (like Waves Enigma)?
Any freebies that offer doppler fx?
Thanks
Mark

What's not to like about them? Fun, cool, useful, fun.duncanparsons wrote:Nice to see BetaBugs getting some glory
Also forgot to mention GVST's GSnap, first, and I think only, freeware auto-tune. And it is really good and useful.
