I’m trying to achieve a stuttering effect on synth lines and vocal using a gate triggered by a beat.
Firstly I need to know a good plugin to achieve this properly, as the waves c1 I have doesn’t appear to have this capibility.
I will be getting a TL audio compressor in the next couple of weeks and just sold a drum kit so my budget for a plugin is £300-600 (gate, sidechain, comp etc)
[ I heard that voxengo products are good and warm]
Any advice would be much appreciated.
setup: cubase sx 3, pc
Gated stuttering synth, bass and vocal!

You could do it with what you already have. Cubase already has a very capable midigate included. All you need to do is extract the loop timing and make a groove pattern from it, then feed a grooved midi pattern to the midigate.
Failing that (which is a bit long-winded, I admit), MDA still release an old plugin Pro-comp. It's very cheap but very effective. It's only mono, but you can easily get around that..especially if it's a vocal - probably already in mono anyway....it can compress and gate, it's got the easiest sidechain in the world. One instance over the destination to gate (set to receive) and one over the source to trigger (set to send).
There are a few compressors with sidechains now, that maybe won't completely gate, but close to it. Kjaerhus GUP-1, I think the GAC-1 gates (but not entirely sure), Otium Compadre, and I'm sure Voxengo release some sidechain comps.
Failing that, you said you're buying a TLA comp - surely most of theirs have sidechains? Use that.
Oddly enough, off the top of my head, I can't think of any plugin gates apart from the MDA one that has straight audio input for the trigger. Mostly they're midi. Someone else might know of one though.
