It depends if you record a lot of audio, if you work with loops, do you use a lot of midi sequencing, maybe you are into sound design etc. There is no program that is the best in all areas, so you have to know what do you want from it.

We could start with the question why do you want to leave Reason. Is there something that you really miss in it, and what features do you really like about it and don't want to lose them?

Hi
yes as the_man said before , it depends on your demands and style of work rather than style of music. IMHO you are more comfortable and have good times in working with Live or FL Studio.

Post

i never thought about it like that guys thanks . i have never really worked with audio as reason is all midi. i like the idea of live because it so simple but i also find it a lttle cramped but i guess that down to prefrence
well i should have a think about why and wat thanks guys

I'd suggest Live 5 too. It's dead easy to get started and therefore you will be rewarded early on. Persevere and dig deep and the rewards keep on coming.

Plus it's a doddle to ReWire your existing Reason setup and get the best of both worlds.

Try the demo, I'm sure you'll love it :)

You may work with audio via use of sampling and rex2 files as created with Recycle..

Live is a favorite of Reason users. The two work very well together. I use Reason with Sonar mostly, sometimes with Live.

I'd also suggest Live.
It complements reaspn very well & it's rewire implementation is not flawed with limitations such as mono rewire channels only (SX) forcing one to have to use cumersome grouping & routing schemes for stereo channels or limited rewire channels & midi implementation & control (sonar's first 16 rewire device control limitation).
Hence with live it's a little easier to transfer existing compositions.
Plus I just like live as a creative tool.... so there ;)

Yes indeedy, Live does just fine with or without Reason (I prefer with), using added VSTs, or with all the above goodies together. Be sure to try it with our house specialty white pizza sauce too! ;-)

Would that be garlic & herb or onion & chive ? :hihi:

Either way is good for me ;)

the only thing that bothers me the cpu issue people seem to have with live. does it really eat that much up
i have 64 bit sempron 3000
igb of ram
do think this would be enough?
thanks

Man, there are a lot of hosts out there to try out. But if you like Live, I'd suggest you make sure you give Cakewalk Project5 a spin as it is pretty similar and it comes with some nicer synths than Live. It doesn't play as nice with Reason though.

il check it out, thanks

@Lovesign: how about some delicious...Image=o.O=

No, I'll take either of the varieties you mentioned. Darn it, now I'm hungrified!

@evileye: Sounds like enough CPU and RAM to do a lot. If the rest of the system (sound card, etc.) is up to it, I think (but can't say for sure, never having used a system that fast) you should be able to squeeze quite a bit of functionality out of Live with that. The more processing you ask Live to do, and the fancier it is, the more CPU it'll munch down. But with the lightweight projects I've done so far, I've found its processor consumption to be pleasingly decent. (3 GHz P4, 511 Mb, M-Audio Firewire 410)

You might also want to look out for Acid Pro 6. That app looks like it's gonna be the real deal.
