Is there an effect that can reproduce the effect of layering heaps of synths without actually having to do the layering yourself? or just any fx good for adding more power to a synth?

In most cases when we talk about layering, we talk about different sounds together. I don't think some magical effect exists that can change one sound into something completely different and then 'layer'it onto the original sound. The best way to go for this is to use sampling: stack several synthsounds on top of eachother and sample the result.
If you mean to just get a bigger sound then look for chorus effects. There are some very nice free ones (me thinking Kjerhous Classic effects)

...like a unison effect? There was the Jackle and Hyde Detunator, buts that's the only one that I've seen. I'd be interested in a more elaborate unison plugin as well.

Who said anything about changing the sound? i want multiple exact replicas of the same sound...crimsonwarlock wrote:In most cases when we talk about layering, we talk about different sounds together. Waves doubler - pretty awesome if you don't mind flogging your wallet.
Other than that, just duplicate your signal and use some pitch shifting plugins. Chorus is a quick and easy way to fatten things up.

The only way to do that properly is to either create multiple midi tracks and copy the part how ever many times and load as many synths as you need to fill the parts. If that's too CPU intensive you can mix the part down and copy it onto as many tracks as you need (just watch for phase cancellations). There really isn't an effective shortcut. C'mon, is it really that much work? I don't think so...hellhound wrote:Who said anything about changing the sound? i want multiple exact replicas of the same sound...crimsonwarlock wrote:In most cases when we talk about layering, we talk about different sounds together. I think the posters question is a totally reasonable.
Korg's Polysix Ensemble (available as part of the MDE-FX suite) can be handy for an instant 'layered' and more powerful sound. Doesn't work for evrything, but sometimes it can really hit the spot.
Anything that does an ADT type effect is worth having a go with - i've started from some PSP84 presets for this type of thing in the past. And there's always the trick of chaining up a series of simple chorus's (chori?) with slightly different, slow, subtle settings.

A lot of the other suggestions that are being posted are valid but they're not really what you're asking for. Putting a chorus or a detuner on someting is not the same as copying it to get it fatter.
What's more, a lot of these effects would take a lot of time and experimentation and would take a lot longer than just copying the thing.

Your pitch shifter seems pretty cool... Looks like you have some other nice VST's as well...braindoc wrote:i made the "Shifter-Bank" plugIn - it's name makes obvious, what it does.Debutante wrote:...like a unison effect? I couldn't find your name "braindoc" in the developers links on KVR... Have you properly submitted your VST's to KVR?
