Hi folks,

I'm keen to rip some audio from DVDs in order to put them in my tunes. Does anyone know of any FREEware that will do this?

Post

Perhaps I should qualify that further....this is DVD video (ie motion pictures etc)- want to take the audio channels and export them to wav or something...anyone?

DVD Decrypter. Takes some work. You get 48KHz files out at the end, though. Of course, you're potentially breaking the law by decrypting a DVD just so you can play content you're allowed to play...

Looks like you'll have to Google for it...

Nero is making mpg-files from DVD content when importing.

And these are handled by many other programs.

Sonar can take mpg-files, and you can just save the audiotrack if you like.

This is a good guide on using DVD Decrypter into Goldwave:

Whatever you do, do not buy this program called DVD Audio Ripper. It's really bad. I had bought it before I knew that DVD Decrypter does this process so easily.

I've also found that recording straight off of the DVD Player's audio outputs is a great way for small samples cause anything I rip with the computer comes out way too low in volume, usually too low to be usable.

Phew! Looks like hard work to me! Can I take it that because this is technically illegal, developers are shying away from releasing anything official?

there are a million DVD rippers on the net - you can just use a demo version to rip the portion of the film you want, then extract the audio using virtualdub

I use DVD Audio Ripper, and have no problem with it.
Granted, it's not free, but by no means is it expensive.

Mr Tunes, why do you dislike it so much?

It's full of bugs, unstable, cant read a ton of discs... has shoddy code behind it(including the GUI). But they just came out with a new version I might give it a shot and buy the upgrade for $15

Let me know how you get on with that new version - still no problems here (although it's not something I use everyday.....)
