Probably a really bad idea.
If anything, go with an M-Audio firewire system and Pro Tools M-Powered. At least you'll still have a decent unit for when you decide to go back to FL/Sonar.
In all seriousness, you'll get more mileage out of the M-Audio unit than the MBox 2, and it's more capable.

what do you think pro tools would offer that you dont already have?
seriously, i use it at college and to be honest i find it a bit shit.yeah the audio suite is pretty good but the midi side is pants
i have no desire to upgrade to even the full version.
plus both the mbox and the digi box seem unreliable hardware interfaces, out of 20 macs at college we have about 5 a week that are being mended

vurt: i understand your situation, I too disliked PT for a great deal of time in college- but i dont think he really asked about anyone's opinions on PT at all? Maybe he needs it to collaborate with other studios?

I mainly do everything in fls and audition"still learning aa2.0", sonar in route as we speak. i mainly would like to have ptle for collab purposes. need advice on if mbox2 is worth selling my firebox. my other option is to by mbox2 and keep my firebox. is there that much a difference in the two interfaces, that would be noticed.

use OMF for collab purposes.
and PT is great- but there's the m-powered version which would be cheaper. Depends on what you want- are you going to use the midi and mic/line inputs on the mbox2?

mainly mic input only. I thought about the m-powered version but i'd have to still by an interface plus pt. I think I might just buy mbox2 and use digi interface for pt use only. from the research on mbox it seems that firebox is a much better interface, might be worth keeping. i read that OMF do not include any of the effect when saved.

I think they just made it M-Powered compatible. It's like an MBox 2 that does 24/96.

Firewire is faster, allows you to have more channels, if you're just doing one channel at a time, it doesn't matter. USB is available on more computers.

OMF is definitely not what it's cracked up to be. Aside from what you mention about the effects, anyone else using pro tools LE will have to buy the $1000-$1500 expansion to read OMFs(I forget how much it costs).

I agree, firewire is clearly superior to the USB 1.1 interface on the M-box. Thats my main argument!
Pro tools TDM can be used with M-box (or any other supported M-audio interface). If you want pro tools, I would go for the M audio FW 410. It's a really nice device, just be very careful that you do not share its IRQ with another device.

An idiot on Set Theory:
