How do I read Akai sample CD's on my PC in Win XP? Is it even possible?

You need to get a converter program like ChickenSys Translator or Extreme Sampler Converter. The disks arent usable in a windows box without one.

I used Extreme Sample Convertor to convert my Akai zip disks with great success.
If you own Wusikstation you get a hefty discount off of EXSC at the moment. If you don't own Wusikstation, you can get Wusikstation V1 for $9.95 and still save money on EXSC

cdXtract is excellent also. You can convert to and from many different formats like giga, akai, halion, kontakt etc. etc. etc.

Most soft samplers have AKAI compatibility (Kontakt, Halion), even reason has some sort of converter I think (stand alone util). I've used CDXtract to create SoundFonts from AKAI CD's years back and it worked great.

Thanx all. Ok, it's just that I haven't installed Kontakt yet, but if that can read the Akai samples and save them as waves, then I'm all happy. I don't need any big converter between multiple formats, just the ability to transfer some Akai loops to Wav files...

Translator Free can convert Akai S-1000/3000 samples to .wav for free, see www.chickensys.com/translatorfree

No reason to buy anything.
